Shortsighted, If they stick to the obsolete 4 speed TC.

It will be the 4-speed TC that is currently doing duty in the Ertiga, XL6 and Ciaz.

Going against the tide, I think this might be the petrol Facelifted Brezza which Motorbeam reader has scooped. Reasons:

1. Look at the rear bumper cladding(the silver part), it is different. Also a quick comparison with the earlier camouflaged pics reveal that the design is similar.

2. The TL appears better in comparison than the Taiwanese units which accessories shop sell.

3. While the front bumper isn't visible clearly in the video, one can see that silver garnish on the bumper, last seen on the White Brezza which surfaced last week.

A 4 speed torque converter is any day better that the AMTs that come with Brezza. For city driving, that is more than sufficient. I have extensively driven the Xcent AT and the Ciaz AT and found them to be a lot better than the AMTs in Nexon and Brezza. The gear changes are a lot smoother than the AMT and up till the legal speed limit of 80KMPH , you will not notice any difference in acceleration between a 4 speed and higher speed ATs. The mileage will suffer if you are going above the said speeds though.

Maruti's 4 speed AT is an Aisin TC transmission, proven and fuel efficient. being dated the limit is that this TC cannot handle more than 110 bhp of power. I believe that current 1.5L engine can deliver more but limited by this factor.

Having said the above, its still a very good transmission for City drives and highways speeds and balances both the requirements well without losing fuel efficiency (key here), 4th gear is an overdrive. This could also be the reason Maruti is not moving to the next generation of TC's.

Also if you drive the current generation 7 speed transmissions, you will find them as bloated Gears, the transmission switches first 2-3 gears even before it touches 30 km/h.

2020 Vitara Brezza details revealed:



Vitara Brezza will get a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre petrol engine. This powerplant already sees duty in other Maruti Suzuki models like the Ertiga and the Ciaz and is good for 105hp at 6,000rpm and 138Nm of torque at 4,600rpm.

there will be two gearbox options on offer – a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic transmission.

Vitara Brezza 1.5 petrol with the manual gearbox will not feature stop-start system and integrated starter generator in order to keep prices competitive. The SUV will not feature ESP but will come with a hill-hold assist feature.

The refreshed Vitara Brezza will get two new exterior paint shades, Sizzling Red and Torque Blue. The updated SUV will be offered in three dual-tone exterior paint shade combinations too, starting with Granite Grey with an orange roof, Torque blue with a black roof and Sizzling Red with a black roof. Higher variants will also feature power-folding wing mirrors and a compact roof antenna. There are talks of wireless charging being offered on higher variants too – a first for any Maruti Suzuki vehicle.

it will come with the new SmartPlay Studio infotainment system seen in all new offerings from the company. The screen will also double as a display for the reverse camera, which will be standard on the top-spec variant. Higher variants will get a leather wrapped steering wheel and an auto dimming rear view mirror as standard.

Thanks for sharing. However what doesn't make sense to me is the absence of Smart Hybrid tech in Manual to make it more competitive.

The automatic variant is priced at a premium anyway. If they add the Smart hybrid system only in Auto, the price difference with Manual will become even higher. Doesn't make sense. I also doubt their claim of ESP not being available in Automatic. The gearbox in all probability will be shared with the Ciaz/Ertiga/XL6.

The spyshots also show the Maruti Vitara Brezza facelift carrying SHVS mild-hybrid badge confirming that at least a few variants will be equipped with the Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). The existing car’s aging 1.3-liter FCA-sourced diesel engine will finally hang up its boots and is expected to be succeeded by the BS6 ready 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine that already powers the Ertiga and Ciaz.

The SHVS mild hybrid system on the 2020 Maruti Brezza petrol SHVS will be adopting a 48V system instead of the 12V system that does duty in the Ertiga and Ciaz (they will be updated too). The new system adds a 48V-12V DC/DC converter and is reported to feature improved overall torque output of 235 Nm when the ISG kicks in. The fuel economy is reported to be improved by 15%.

A 48-Volt system will be a very welcome addition. If Maruti is able to deliver that level of torque and FE improvement, most of the people will forget diesels. Whenever i think that Maruti may be left behind, they do something which is relevant to the market. I would say, a very good move. Partnership with Toyota is showing its benefits now. Can we now assume that Maruti is lobbying for a reduction in GST on Hybrids?
