re: Tata builds a Nexon EV. EDIT: Launched at ₹13.99 lakhs

As expected an "empty" video with no technical details
I am looking forward to MG eZS - looks good, has good reviews from UK and is a real EV like Kona whose specs are not secret!

They will release the technical details when they actually launch the product which is still few months away. Neither Hyundai nor MG released technical details before the actual launch of the product in India. Lets not dismiss the product before it gets even released.

MG eZS got decent reviews in UK mainly because of its price. Its the cheapest EV of that size. On the other hand all of MG's petrol/diesel products got very bad or average reviews in UK. Hyundai Kona is another level which is praised across the world for its efficiency, range and quality of vehicle.

they showed the app, and it had around 46% charge left. So, it covered ~150km for 64% of the charge, which means that on full charge it will do around 235km.

ARAI should scrap all their standard tests and just let five different drivers drive the car around a specific route at different times of the day and take the average as the range. Just take the video of the whole thing and put it on the website. Will be a much more useful data point than what they are providing now. Or the very least, come up with a simple factor to convert to real world range.

Or maybe, TeamBHP can do that going forward. Just chose a loop and test all upcoming EVs around that loop. 10 different trips by 10 different drivers, starting at 7 am every hour through 5 pm.

Surprising that nobody posted these links here even though episode 3 came out a week ago and episode 4, 2 days ago. The Nexon EV is definitely not gaining traction in this enthusiastic community!

Lack of interest is probably because the video is running like a soap opera with no real information being shared. The Nexon's capabilities are well known. What we need to know is the capabilities of the EV.

1. How many times was it charged?
2. What was the distance covered between charges?
3. What was the charge percentage remaining when it was going to be recharged?
4. Is the car heavier or lighter or almost the same as the ICE version?
5. How does it perform under full load?
6. Maximum distance covered on a single charge (100-0%).
7. Top speed, 0-60, 0-100, 20-60, 40-100 times.

This is an enthusiast forum and nothing matters more than specifics.

The sneak peak is consistent with their recent marketing style of giving sneak peaks long before the product is ready for launch when greater details are revealed. Dunno if it actually helps or hurts them.

You can tell whether these sneak peeks (?) are actually helping or hurting the product by the kind of response being generated here.

I truly hope they change their tactics because whatever worked earlier clearly is not working now. The sales this year is testimony to that. The Harrier launch was a blunder of mammoth proportions, especially when they were gaining market share and changing people's perception.

The Nexon EV has the chance to bring people to the pollution-free world, since it's priced lower than the Hyundai Kona. But Tata can ill-afford another pricing/marketing/quality blunder like the Harrier. A lower sticker price (leaner margins) will have many looking at it. Price it higher and the footfalls will reduce.

Here's the 5th episode. Can't help but yawn. Not for the car, but for the drag.

re: Tata builds a Nexon EV. EDIT: Launched at ₹13.99 lakhs

I was disappointed by the web series, it was supposed to be focused on the EV capabilities, while some of the videos did highlight the advantages of EV like being quiet, can work without any hiccups at high altitude, they missed the boat on addressing the key concern of range and charging, only the 2nd episode tackled this.
I really wanted to know where did they charge in Pang/Sarchu and beyond. If it was done on a 5A plug, how much time it took etc.

As said earlier, this seemed like Milind and Ankita having a road trip video than Nexon EV video.

Spotted on the Mumbai-Pune expressway doing 100-ish kmph speeds by YouTuber Denz World.

re: Tata builds a Nexon EV. EDIT: Launched at ₹13.99 lakhs

Why is Tata so bad at drumming up interest? Who in the world is the advertising agency they roped in for that series?!

They have the perfect product, it is almost a production vehicle, open to be tested by people outside Tata but instead of using this opportunity to create a fun, informative and learning experience of living with EVs, they made a Ladakh ad??

Just give Milind Soman the car and create series about living with it, show it charging, where can it be charged, how easy or difficult it is to be charged, average expenses, and do some trips to give people the idea of the range and usability and make it interesting.

They should learn from people like the The Fully Charged Show and Bjørn Nyland.
