I feel that Toyota should have started this badge-swapping exercise with the Vitara Brezza instead of Baleno.

The compact SUV segment is heating up with every passing month. Ecosport, Venue, XUV300, Nexon, Brezza - each of these cars have their own USPs. A good number of buyers do not consider the Brezza because of its Maruti Suzuki badge at this price. Rightly so, they do not want the same purchase and after-sales experience as a 3-lac-rupee Alto customer when spending 3 or 4 times that amount. However, the reality is that it is a 4 star rated car and still a great looker. If Toyota launched a Brezza without zero changes apart from the swapped badges, it will at least give buyers a reason to pay a premium for a better purchase experience along with the opportunity to be associated with a more valuable brand. Going by Toyota's performance in the higher segments, it would be fair to assume that the rebranded Brezza would have been able to do decent volumes. At the same time, it would help maintain Toyota's image of safe cars (even though with light sheet metal on the outside) as the Etios twins also got a 4 star rating despite their flimsy outer build.

Going by how things are turning out to be, there's simply no reason to go for a Glanza over a Baleno. At NEXA, the purchase experience is generally more lavish than a Toyota outlet. There goes the expectation of a better purchase experience. Maruti is a leader of budget segment (under 7-8 lakhs) and customers of this segment do not hesitate in going for a Maruti. So even Toyota's brand name (that has also failed in this segment in the past) does not make a strong case considering the segment. The Glanza will be just another product in the sea of offerings in this segment with no strong reason for customers to even consider it. In the course of a few years when safety ratings will become a stronger consideration for buyers, this Baleno-copy will do nothing but big damage to Toyota's image.

Every Toyota car in the market commands a premium price as compared to rivals and, thus, I do not see Toyota pricing the Glanza at a 5,000 rupee premium (reasonable for the changes on offer) over the Baleno. Unless that's the case, it would be utter stupidity to shell out a higher amount for the same thing. This has never worked in India.

Toyota is running a couple of months late. April 1 would have been the most suitable date ever for a grand launch (or hatch?) of the Glanza. :D

Eagerly awaiting the team bhp review on this vehicle!

There's no need to wait.

1) Head over to this thread right away
2) Copy the text to MS Word
3) Use Ctrl+F to find "Maruti"; replace with "Toyota"
4) Use Ctrl+F again to find "Baleno"; replace with "Glanza"
5) Give it a thorough read

Hope that helps. :)

What I feel is Toyota failed to take advantage of MS this time.

IMO, what could have worked in Toyota's favour was if the facelifted Baleno was launched as the Glanza, and the pre-facelift one was kept at Nexa stables for atleast a year. Then it would could have been updated to the same/similar design as the Glanza later.

This would have allowed Toyota to charge a significant premium for their "newer" offering , and helped MS to discount Baleno more to undercut i20/Nexon.

I don't know, whether the Toyota blew their move, or that MS was really smart to deny any favourable opportunity to Toyota by launching the facelifted Baleno themselves asap. Whatever be the case, it seems an interesting deepdive topic.

Glanza Spotted ... Load and Clear. Exterior, Interior and engine :) Some more pics

As anticipated, Toyota has retained Maruti's legendary power windows switch console.

I have a feeling that there would be many people willing to buy this over Baleno. This could be a transformational change for Toyota. We might be nit-picking but a common person is really not worried about many things like PDI etc. So this may be a hit.

I really hope Toyota to fail big time with this. I hope this sells even lesser than the Yaris (which is much more deserving to sell more). I hope this launch hurt Toyota with their long term strategy for India. I hope Toyota learn a lesson for once that sticks with them.

I just hope this launch never happen.

Wow, looks so different than Baleno! I hope they don't charge more than 1 lakh for this beautiful transformation. Baleno was never on my Radar, but I can't wait to buy this!

(Reaction expected by the company)

It is high time to start the 'Let them rot' movement here. If companies think a sticker is a proper distinguishing factor in two cars, this tells a lot about how they think of the Indian market.

Is this one equipped with the same smartplay infotainment system that comes with Baleno ?

There is a popular section on a famous regional newspaper (Punjab Kesari) in North India where the task is to find at least 6 differences in two similar pictures. Glanza and Baleno pics are gonna by surely lapped up by the editor for sure with caption "In gaadi ke chitron me 6 antar dhundiye" (Find 6 differences in pictures of these cars)

Toyota/Maruti, be prepared for a stream of memes now- ever seen Ram/Shyam, Seeta aur Geeta, Gopi Kishan, Judwaa, Brothers separated in some fair (mela) only to be reunited later.lol:

So basically , a Glanza owner can buy a MGP spare part and replace it in their Toyota. That may hurt Toyota since the availability of MGP spares is better than Toyota in the free market. And one can always compare the price for a component between Toyota spare and MGP and choose whichever is cheaper.

After successfully making so many transformations, how can Toyota skip the ICE. The Suzuki logo will be replaced with Toyota logo.

The one in the ad is significantly lowered to look good on the TVC than the actual Glanza in the pics from before. The stance in the TVC and 2 pics in your post look so much better.

Looking at that behind the scenes video clip, the camera car aroused more interest than the car which is yet to be launched.
What truck is that, can anybody tell?
