Practically nothing. Going by logic, you do have a valid point.

The main sarcasm is because Toyota was too lazy to give some effort which could have given the Glanza a different identity.

We have seen this same trend with many cars like Duster/Terrano, Rapid/Vento etc etc.
But all the above cars looked different and had their own identity.

In case of Glanza and Baleno, if someone de-badge the car, it will be really difficult for a non enthusiast to identify the actual make. For the mass it will play a major role. You buy a Glanza and bring it home, and the very next day morning your neighbor congratulates you for buying a Baleno!

Very soon local accessory shops will start giving packages to convert Baleno's to Glanza! This will be the shortcut for people who want to enjoy the Maruti convenience with a Toyota badge!

The exact same case which happened with the Creta. Many people bought the E or E+ then got that modified to look like a SX.

I do agree that such an arrangement doesn't really make sense to me either. The above discussion is also based on the critical assumption that prices would be identical between the 2 cars but then why on earth would MSIL allow Toyota to price the car at the same price. And ofcourse no one will pay Toyota the premium they usually ask across their other models for a Maruti Baleno which they can buy from the Nexa showroom next door. Pricing is the key here.

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

Maruti has too many products to handle right now, through regular showrooms. Will the Nexa offerings be transferred to Toyota wholly? Let's not forget that their electric vehicles are coming, and that will require new strategies/showrooms. Will Nexa host those products exclusively, after all the branding does look Futuristic/'Electric'? These are few thoughts coursing through my mind as I'm trying to make sense of their steps!

Agree there will be some differentiator - warranty and service terms, the engine perhaps ( atleast initially). But what will the launch event be like!! Will they actually keep it covered, for some kind of dramatic reveal?

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

Toyota's 'mystery' car ready for launch

Will be offered only with 1.2 petrol engine. G MT gets the 90PS/113Nm whereas the other trims such as the G CVT, V MT and V CVT get the 83PS/113Nm engine.

Toyota_India will be offering 3 years / 1 lakh km warranty on the Glanza. This can be extended to upto 5 years and 2.2 lakh km. Also, claims to offer low cost of maintenance.

Fuel efficiency figures claimed by Toyota_India - 23.87kmpl for the G MT, 21.01kmpl for the V MT and 19.56kmpl for the G and V CVTs

Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, Isofix child seat mounts and reverse parking sensors are standard across variants.

Have to hand it to them, they renamed (rebadged?) the colors too! The semi-transparent cover is probably tacit acknowledgment that there isn't really anything secret underneath.

Thanks guys. I can't tell you what i am seeing right now. You will have to see it to believe it. What a lame launch!

Prices out: 7.21 to 8.9 lacs. I think they have matched Baleno prices to the T

http://www.autopunditz.com/news/2142...d-in-may-2019/

Toyota is all set to launch the badge-changed Baleno as Glanza today. The Japanese OEM has already dispatched 2,142 units of Glanza to the dealers in the previous month and is all set to sell the model from its showrooms. A lot shall depend on the pricing which is going to be announced in the course of the day today.

If I am comparing it correctly then, they have priced the entry level Model i.e. G MT(Hybrid) INR 3512 cheaper and rest of the models at a huge gap of INR 12 from corresponding Baleno Models.

With such a huge price reduction coupled with the additional warranty and Toyota service doesn't it appeal to be a better buy than Baleno
