The negativity will still remain. There's an other thread comparing examples of Badge Engineering.

Continuing the trend in this particular Badge-Engineering effort, good thing that Toyota has not altered the prices too much. Probably too lazy to do that.

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

Will this 'take the wind out of the sails' for Maruti: Baleno is one of it's best sellers and Hyundai has already done that with the Venue (almost halving Brezza sales), it will be interesting to see Maruti's June July sales figures! BTW, no media drives offered?? ))

I don't think so. Reason being that the Dualjet engine variants comprise of a miniscule part of Baleno sales. The regular variants, both BSIV and VI, are priced considerably lower (1L and 1.2L approx on road).

On the other hand, the slowdown has already "taken the wind out of the sails" for Maruti.

Has anyone driven the Dualjet engine? Can the extra horses be felt?

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

I think we as a forum are a confusing set of people to analyze for a auto manufacturer.

On one hand, we say safety should be priority over gimmicky features, on the other hand we are bending the knee to the Glanza just because they have priced a gimmicky version lower.

Has the car improved on safety aspect - NO!
Is there any better structural reinforcement - NO!
Does the "My Baleno is a tin-can thread still seem relevant"? - YES!

Does someone who cares for safety like the Glanza over a Baleno? - Absolutely NO!

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

Toyota already have a 4 star rating car which does dismal sales. They have a car which had 7 airbags from the base variant. Again selling poorly.

So let's please not pretend like we all love our safe cars. The Nexon has slipped to 4th in the list last month in terms of sales and it's a 5 star rated car.

Toyota had seen what the customer wants and are offering exactly that.

Well said. At the end of the day the Glanza is still a Baleno. Part of the buying group will move to a Toyota showroom rather than a Maruti. Suzuki as the parent will be happy to see their twins doing well. And obviously those who prefer better safety and better build quality will stay away.

Err ... what??

Toyota marketing seems to have spent as much money on creatives as they have on product development.

Yes!! Of course!! I heard this completely weird tag line more than a week back on the radio.

Looks like Toyota has had to hatch this devious marketing plan to sell their new hatchback car.
All because the bean counters in Japan and India told marketing to batten down the hatches. But the strategy folks did not want to get caught dead in the hatched area of the road when CAFE comes into play!
If TKM thinks this will sell as well as the Baleno, then they are counting their chickens before they hatch.

This seems to be an interesting strategy by Toyota-Suzuki. Expecting intresting theories and stories about the topic.
Folks in towns and smaller cities will go for Baleno as for them having a service center nearby is more valuable than 1 year extended warranty. Folks in cities where Toyota A.S.S exists, will slowly start shifting towards Glanza, afterall there is nothing to lose. However things might change, once "Introductory price" fades off. Knowing Toyota's history, price hike is imminent and in no time Glanza will be 30-40K costlier than Baleno.

Although I wouldn't buy the Baleno for obvious reasons, but if I had to, I'll buy the glanza instead anyday.
Toyota showroom is 17 kms away, and nexa is about 100 metres near the Toyota showroom.

It seems people aren't as unaware as I thought they would be, many already know about the glanza and have clearly stated a preference for the glanza over the Baleno, because "glanza is more premium because it is from Toyota".

As far as Thrissur is concerned, I can see where this is going. Maruti I think, you did a slight mistake there allowing Toyota to eat into your products, unless ofc this is all pre-planned and it's all working out the way it's meant to be.

Re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

Toyota may be able to sell Glanza in decent numbers, but I would say that they have insulted themselves, insulted the legacy of a great company who make and sell some of the best cars in the world.

Why did they price it lower ? Obviously because it doesn't meet Toyota Standards, they very well know that its not a Toyota.

Its a shame and insult to us as well, They know that Indians will buy anything with a T badge.

Honda/Tata - You won your next customer !

Re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

Does somebody know more about the mild Hybrid tech? Looks like Suzuki might have inherited it from Toyota. That is why the G variant which has this tech is much cheaper than Suzuki. Rest all variants are similarly priced as Baleno.

G variant might get the maximum booking for Glanza, for others people will stay confused in choosing between the two. Whosoever gives maximum discounts wins
