Toyota Glanza G MT launched at Rs 6.98 lakh

The Toyota Glanza G MT is now also available with the 1.2-litre, K12M petrol engine; undercuts the G Smart Hybrid variant by Rs 24,000.

Up until now, the base version of the Toyota Glanza - essentially a rebadged version of Maruti Suzuki Baleno - was only available in Smart Hybrid form with Suzuki's 1.2-litre, K12N DualJet mild-hybrid powertrain. Now, four months on from its launch, Toyota has introduced a new, more affordable version of the Glanza, which gets the 1.2-litre, K12M engine without a mild-hybrid system and is priced at Rs 6.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

At this price, the K12M-powered Glanza G MT undercuts the Glanza G Smart Hybrid by a notable Rs 24,000. However, it is worth mentioning that while the K12M-powered Glanza G MT is more affordable than the Smart Hybrid version, it is also less fuel-efficient. The K12M MT's fuel efficiency is rated at 21.01kpl, while the K12N Smart Hybrid’s fuel efficiency figure is rated at 23.87kpl.

There are two trim levels in the Glanza range - G and V, which are based on the Baleno’s Zeta and Alpha trims respectively. The DualJet Smart Hybrid engine is only available with the lower G MT and not with the top-spec V MT, which only comes with the K12M engine. The K12M-powered Glanza G MT also undercuts the Baleno Zeta variant it's based on by Rs 7,000. This, however, is a much smaller difference compared to the massive Rs 65,000 margin that the Glanza G MT Smart Hybrid undercuts the Baleno Zeta Smart Hybrid by.

As with the Baleno, the Glanza's engine options are BS6-compliant. The 1.2-litre, K12M makes 83hp and 113Nm of torque, and the K12N DualJet engine with the mild-hybrid system produces 90hp and 113Nm of torque. Gearbox options for the Glanza include a 5-speed manual as well as a CVT.

In terms of equipment, there are no changes on the K12M-powered Toyota Glanza G MT, so it gets the same automatic climate control, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-tone alloy wheels, steering-mounted audio controls and push-button start-stop system as the G Smart Hybrid.

Since its launch in June 2019, the Toyota Glanza has witnessed decent demand, with over 11,000 units sold in four months. Apart from the significantly lower sticker price for the G MT Smart Hybrid variant, what seems to be working in the Glanza's favour is its 3-year, 1,00,000km warranty, which bests the 2-year, 40,000km warranty Maruti Suzuki offers on the Baleno.

Maruti Suzuki is unfazed though a reduction in Baleno volumes.

We went ahead and bought a Glanza to replace our 15 year old Alto. Went with the G - Mild Hybrid model and happy with the sales process with Nandi toyota. Hope to test the mild hybrid options.

Chose this over Baleno as it is about 1 lakh cheaper for the same variant on road price in Bangalore.

Time to update the signature. :)

Glanza continues to haul Toyota up the sales chart. Does sell 2727 units in October-19.

Is the build quality of glanza better than that of baleno?

Or the Toyota SA's are just making a fool of customers by claiming the same?

There is ZERO change apart from the 7 badges.

There are no changes. Infact the VIN for glanza is also from Suzuki. Only the front grill is changed and the logos.

I think Glanza has brake assist in its CVT, which as told by the Toyota sales guy is not there in Baleno. Haven't validated it.

Toyota Glanza beats projection estimates in volumes.

My F-in-L is considering buying one but we are leaning more towards Baleno because MUL A.S.S. have better experience servicing this car as they have been doing it since 2016. Also, we fear Toyota service centres may be paying more attention to pricey Fortuners and Innovas . Glanza would be at lowest end of their car spectrum. Whatsay guys?

I don’t think that should be a concern, man. Going by that logic even MSIL will pay more attention to Ciaz, XL6 and S-cross. Don’t worry about things like these, just go ahead and buy it if you like the car. Everyone’s professional.

The power of brand loyalty - Toyota Glanza beats all estimates, consistently does > 2k volumes/month.

In February Maruti Suzuki dispatches 2699 units to TKM.

I was of the impression that Glanza can be serviced at MS service centres, atleast after the warranty period. Isn't it possible?
