re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

This is simply hilarious ! Yes they can sell a few but cmon ! What kind of an effort is this ? I can't believe my eyes honestly !

They made news when the partnership was announced and many of us pessimists felt badge engineered cars are a bad idea and then we see this ! This not badge engineering, this is a joke.

Going through the pictures of another car scoop, I was wondering whether Renault could have worked more on the Kwid's design aspect as the rear still looks bland.

Came here right after that and I have a new-found respect for Renault now!

What a joke by Toyota! Do they call themselves world's top most manufacturer? This is what the top most manufacturer does?
Just change the grille and badge. Someone told me on LinkedIn recently that Toyota gets to enter new market segment. I think it's the worse step. It would actually spoil their name in the segment with this half hearted approach.
Cars based on the same platform don't work even when looks are different (Renault Duster, Captures, Kicks, Terrano). Glanza is no way different from Baleno, just the badges. What makes them think they will enter new segments. They would spoil their brand identity and once you have a negative image in the market, it's really difficult to come back (Everyone saw Fiat go down even though had good products)

This looks awfully bad. Why were they thinking of? Personally, I feel this will badly affect the good brand image that Toyota has. Still can't figure out why one should pick this over the normal Baleno. Toyota has been looting our market since the last couple of years, the overpriced Innova and Yaris, and now this ! I really do hope they learn something. It feels as if like, they can launch anything and there will still be takers for it.

Given the half-arsed attempt at branding, I guess we can safely assume the underlying tin-can is identical to its Maruti sibling too.

There go people's hopes of a better-built Baleno.

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

I have got some new found immense respect with what Renault and Nissan did with Duster/Terrano, Scala/Sunny and Micra/Pulse.
Even a next door kid can do this rebadging.
Toyota and Suzuki needs to hire those guys.

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

Toyota had a similar attempt in the USA as well. Subaru BRZ v Scion FR-S. Granted I read that the cars maybe tuned differently but they look very very similar with the same engine and same transmission.

I am not sure how they'll be priced or if the features will be the same. But if they have spare capacity to produce cars, why not utilise it?

It'll be very interesting to see what will be the differentiator and I really hope they give Suzuki their hybrid technology. Want to see more cars with the technology behind the Prius/Camry but a lot more affordable.

Atleast get the UV cut glasses across their range, please.

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

I will buy any of this only if it has Toyota's legendary reliable diesel engine/gearbox customized with bits that I don't get in a Maruti, say a 6 speed manual/automatic torque converter mated to a 1.5 liter 95-100 bhp diesel engine, interior bits different from the Baleno, handling different from the Baleno etc

Why would I buy a re-badged Baleno which Maruti sells anyway?

Just thinking, now you get the same set of window buttons which you get from wagon r to Scross now even in a Toyota.

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

I am really They should have retained the name Baleno too. Toyota Baleno

So better buy a Maruti Baleno Alpha and spend some 3K for that Grill wrap, 3 Logos, GLANZA & V. Put the difference of OTR to Toyota Glanza in a FD and do the service/maintenance for 7 years and still save some money.

When they say badge engineering I never thought it was actually a badge (logo) replacing engineering.

I am speechless.

Boy, someone's been practicing their Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V skills!

At least the good folks over at Renault and Nissan had the sense to add some differentiating elements in their Sunny-Scala, Micra-Pulse, and Duster-Terrano twins. This is almost like one saying, "I'm wearing a different t-shirt, today. So I'm a new person!", except all that has changed is the print on the t-shirt.

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

Even the color is the same
Toyota could have, at the very least, brought some other color options compared to the existing Baleno as a differentiator, they still might do mind you, but I wouldn't bet on it now!

Reminds me of our college assignments - everything except the name and the signature is the same - so it's nothing but plain plagiarism from Toyota

O boy, what kind of sharing is this? The Baleno looks so much better than this contraption. No wonder Maruti is insisting on including the Glanza numbers in their wholesale numbers. Toyota should have changed the front end to the render posted by Volkman a few pages back. That car looks premium and much better. (https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...ml#post4580630 )

Toyota Glanza, in comparison Baleno looks smarter. How will Toyota justify the premium pricing - Warranty package?

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

I was trying to explain my 4 year old son not to mix his cars and their spare parts in his car set (obviously he's into cars ).

Now he's gonna tell me about Toyota and Maruti and I will have no response.

Damn
