Any change in specifications? I hope they conform to the stricter Toyota QC norms. Any additional goodies. It will be an interesting exercise.

I think Toyota is targeting the customers who are put-off by Baleno's waiting time. That itself can easily come to anywhere between 1000 to 1500 sales every month. Add Toyota "premium", they are not only mopping up on sales that they have been letting go but also earn a nice premium from them. These Japanese have a shrewd sense of business I tell you.

Based on the given info, is there any possibility of getting a much higher variant VX with 6 airbags, ESP and other additional features in the near future if there is demand.

Thanks in advance.

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

This whole exercise has been to meet or come closer to the CAFE norms. Toyota's maximum sales come from Diesel UVs, with which they won't be able to meet these norms or even come closer.

This is the reason why they chose only petrol and the middle two variants(for maximum sales). Except this, there is no other reason for relaunching a blockbuster product from another manufacturer with minimal changes.

Shashi

Best option IMO would be to get the Maruti Baleno, get some badges from Toyota and save the premium between the two for modifications

Photoshop work for promotion? Laziest product launch EVER!

People who think Toyota is doing this to see if the market accept such not so well built cars are somehow missing Toyota's effort with Etios twins. Twist here is that Etios were very safe and would have been more successful with Maruti's makeover.

MS and Toyota together as a combination has maximum volume and profitability. And even then they refuse to bring something fresh to the market. It deserves to be treated with contempt from the customers.
Completely agree. As other BHPians rightly pointed out, Toyota will be just slapping the logo and grille on the export versions.

I respect Honda for what they have done.

Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno) launching in June 2019

And please save some embarrassment by not offering the same Nexa Blue in the Glanza. It would just be more apparent in such a popular colour from the Baleno.

In India, all rebadged cars from Renault and Nissan had much better differentiations. Just look at the Terrano and the Duster. The lights, the grill and the bumpers were all different. And similarly even Rapid and the Vento.
And yet, the market thoroughly dismissed all of the clones, except the Rapid and Vento cousins.

So how is Toyota hoping to pull this off? May be they just to try this out and take future calls on such rebadged cars differently. But all in all a very clumsy effort from Toyota.
And im still hoping that these are not the actual images. Maybe Toyota surprises us by revealing a car thats heavily worked up on.

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

We see a lot of cars on the Weird & Wacky Mod jobs Thread, where humble cars sport international logos on them (Tata Estate as Mercedes Benz). Maybe, this is also fit to be a case there.

Cost of two logos & 1 name = 100 bucks. Price increase = 1 lakh (if we are lucky).

With the number of Balenos running around, I doubt anyone will figure out if it's a Toyota (which it isn't).

I don't think such a lame exercise would have happened before! It's just plain lame and goes on to show that Toyota doesn't care about the market. The least they could do was redesign the taillamps but they have left even that.

On a lighter note, dealers having dealerships of both the brands won't have to spend on demo cars. Just send the Baleno when the customer asks for a TD of Glanza. Most folks won't even notice the difference!

Cheers!

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

An upper end Baleno at Nexa Costs Rs. 9.48 Lakhs.
A top end Liva about 8.65 Lakhs.

Glanza will be a product prices at 8 to 10 Lakhs and Toyota will have an A/T hatchback ( CVT ) for the first time in India.

Better still, buy it from MS and slap Toyota logos and sell it for a premium. A serious opportunity for arbitrage

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

A simple re-badging with front facia change is not at all a prudent strategy, esp after Yaris episode. Hopefully TKM will differentiate the cars. Toyota cars have better ergonomics and utilitarian features in addition to the famed QDR, if they launch a cosmetic upgrade it's going to be failure. Suzuki however will stand to gain from re-badging TKM cars with cosmetic upgrade (Corolla)

Looks like Toyota is going to pull the plug on the Etios/Liva. For ₹ 9.75 OTR one could get an Etios petrol top end sedan; a great product and a great driver too, let down by it's "cabbie" image. Toyota hasn't had success in sub ₹ 10 lakh segment and is looking to Maruti to bail itself out.
