re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

If the news of Toyota flirting with Suzuki for possible acquisition is true then this excercise from a product management perspective is simple A/B testing. Will customers choose A or B, test in a fail fast manner with minimum investment. Rebranding few flagship cars is a simple A/B testing for the brand. All things being the same, will customers buy from Maruti or Toyota and in which segments?
Depending on the results, you can decide in case of an acquisition your brand/segment strategy.
Even if its not related to acquisition, you can still get valuable information on amount of investment to funnel into actual product development across segments. How do you decide the ROI in trying to launch competitive product against Baleno given Maruti's dealer/service network reach. These are not trivial decision and you need a fail fast approach.

Kudos to Baleno's International looks for carrying the Toyota badge proudly.

Just to think, Would Glanza owners be replacing their badges with Suzuki Logo for a better resale?

Why would people do that? The Baleno owners would switch badges to Toyota for a better resale. The Toyota badge deserves more resale value than Maruti Suzuki, but this being a copy, and the fact that the Indian consumer is more intelligent now, I don't think they will pay more for Glanza.

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

We always wonder what is the premium of a brand name. There are always discussions on how a car would would command a premium if it were launched by some other manufacturer.

This Glanza vs Baleno is a good exercise to judge the brand premium of Toyota over Suzuki. Any premium over Baleno is simply the brand price of Toyota, which can now be applied as a % factor to other vehicles.

Well, that settles it then. Also, when asked for a td of a crysta, and even a corolla, the local Toyota guy simply didn’t get back.

My previous comment was in response to the comment on people buying a Corolla and changing the badge to Suzuki. The use of ‘stupidness’ was to indicate the same. What I meant was it would be stupid of any customer who downgrades a Toyota Corolla bought from Toyota showroom to a Maruti/Suzuki Corolla by changing the badge. It would be a different ball game if a customer buys a Suzuki Corolla from showroom.

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

Toyota Glanza's Engine details,

Quote:
There will be two BS6-compliant petrol engine options on offer with the Toyota Glanza – the 1.2-litre, K12B making 83hp and 113Nm of torque, and like we’d first reported earlier this month, there will also be the 1.2-litre, K12C DualJet engine with a mild-hybrid system.

The DualJet engine is marginally more powerful than the K12B, making 90hp and an identical 113Nm of torque. Paired with K12C motor is the Smart Hybrid system that utilises a lithium-ion battery and provides a torque-assist function that improves acceleration, a start-stop system that switches off the engine at idle to boost fuel efficiency and a brake-energy regeneration function that recharges the battery under deceleration.

Like with the Baleno, the DualJet Smart Hybrid engine will only be available with the lower ‘G’ manual variant, and not with the V, which will only get the K12B engine. Gearbox options for the Glanza will include a 5-speed manual as well as a CVT, but the latter will only be available with the K12B-engined G variant and the V trims

They are offering Android Auto and Apple Car Play with the Glanza. Wont that be a first for a Toyota car which has so far been adamant about not offering these in any of their cars anywhere in the world?

So as I mentioned earlier Toyota will play the warranty card. Glanza will come with 3Year standard warranty against Baleno's 2. Toyota will charge 20K premium for T badge and extra 1 year warranty. All the best toyota Sales advisors, a lot of epic conversations to be witnessed.

That's pure loot by Maruti. When Glanza and Baleno is mechanically same in all ways. Toyota is giving a warranty of 3 years/1,00,000 km and Maruti will have the same sub standard warranty of 2 years/40,000 km. Seems Maruti sure is bound to have negative feedback.

Also, in the era of Hyundai and Honda provides 3 year/unlimited km warranty, Maruti is still looting the customers with segment worse warranty policy. Shame for the top manufacturer of India!

Maruti's Dictionary doesn't have a word called "shame".

India is their one and only biggest market in the world and they have such a great market share in India- still they sell some of the most Unsafe cars to us without any shame or guilt. They have made billions from India, at least they should have the basic courtesy to sell safe cars whether govt mandates it or not.

Think of it this way that Toyota will charge an amount over the Maruti's price as a 'premium' and this premium will give the customers one year additional warranty. So they have already made the customer pay for the additional coverage upfront. Maruti also does the same for some 15k or so in the name of additional warranty, which is optional.

I agree. They have gone too far in the name of fuel efficiency. Their cars may be structurally safe or not is for another debate but the kind of sheet metal quality they give in their B2 segment hatchbacks (Baleno and Swift) is totally unacceptable. Give this level of quality in your entry level car like Alto but not in your premium hatchbacks!

I love the Swift and Baleno for all their pros, but not the inferior build quality.

re: Toyota Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno). EDIT: Launched @ Rs 7.22 lakh

Auto Magazines wouldn't have a problem in accommodating the Glanza in the award category.

They can give "The most irrelevant/pointless launch of the year 2019" award to Glanza

Same alloys with T logo, shameful. That's the easiest change they could have done. Everything being the same, had Toyota plonked the 1.5 petrol this badge engineering would have made some sense.

IIRC Toyota and Maruti-Suzuki both use the same PCD for their wheels too, it wouldn't have been hard for Toyota to use one of their designs.. Sheer laziness.
