Scoop! Ssangyong Tivoli facelift spotted testing in India

Thanks to Felix Paul for sending these images in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP page!

What appears to be a facelift version of the global-spec Ssangyong Tivoli has been spotted testing in India. The left-hand drive test mule was seen on the Salem-Coimbatore highway.

According to the spy images, the updated Tivoli is likely to get a redesigned front end featuring new headlamp clusters with integrated LED daytime running lights and a rectangular grille. The test mule has a dual-tone bumper with a trapezoidal air dam and circular fog lamps. It has ORVMs with integrated turn signals, roof rails and chrome window trim.

In the international market, the new Tivoli is expected to be offered with a 1.2-litre, turbocharged petrol engine producing around 161 BHP. The new engine is likely to replace the 1.6-litre unit that has a peak output of 129 BHP.

Now this really seems an interesting prospect. Mahindra is rightfully anticipating the needs of a maturing market.

If they are able to give it a decent heart, an autobox and a worthy price tag it can be major crowd puller.

Slightly OT..what is the name going to be? XUV450?

XUV 300 is Mahindra's version of Tivoli.

In all probability, Tivoli won't be launched here (as there isn't much to differentiate except styling, and slightly bigger - length wise)

Most like, this model is here for some Powertrain testing/ part of global validation program.

SsangYong Tivoli facelift debuts with new Mahindra engine. The G1.2T direct-injection motor churns out 126hp and 230Nm of torque.

The same 1.2-litre T-GDI engine from the updated Tivoli will be fitted on the XUV300’s Sportz variant. Ford EcoSport will also receive the same engine as a replacement for its 1.0-litre EcoBoost.

The front looks good, interiors are fine. What were they thinking when they designed the rear? Is there a trend or what by most manufacturers to come out with ugly designs from good looking ones?

Re: Scoop! Ssangyong Tivoli facelift spotted testing in India

The designs of Ssangyong of today reminds me of Hyundai and Kia until 2009. Their models had quirky designs.

I see a lot of potential in Ssangyong, which sadly Mahindra will never be able to utilize. (I see a lot of potential in the superb logo design itself.)

Mahindra has been the owner of Ssangyong since a decade. It is sad how Mahindra Never had Pininfarina Design Ssangyong cars which could add appeal to their capabilities. It is also sad how platform sharing and badge engineering in international markets has only been limited to the Tivoli/ XUV300.

After experiencing the new Rexton and xuv300, it is clear that Mahindra has failed Ssangyong and not the other way round.

conclusion: excellent interiors with an ok exterior marred by the rear looks.

Mahindra has a history of chopping and stretching cars, so I wouldnt be surprised to see a XUV300 plus, which might be a proper Creta rival with increased boot space and probably increased road clearance. Given that the XUV300 is not based on any of the existing Mahindra cars, it does make sense to exploit this platform more. And all the more reason due to the rather lacklustre response to the XUV300.
