re: Maruti S-Cross 1.5L Smart Hybrid Petrol, now launched at Rs. 8.39 lakhs

Missed opportunity by Maruti S Cross again.

- No change in interiors whatsoever (MID, rear vents, charging port)
- No functional changes (no flat bottom steering wheel, i believe the MID is the old one and not the new one on Ciaz, XL 6)
- Hope all disc brakes are retained and so is the rake / reach of steering

Atleast some additional effort could have been put take on the Korean twins, but looks like a half-hearted launch by Maruti.

Poor Pricing specially for AT considering S-Cross is nearing End of Life.
I was considering it but now I have decided to go ahead with Honda city CVT 2020. It’s much more VFM.

If there is any manufacturer who sells a certain car as a 'SUV' from their premium stable, gives the consumers an automatic gearbox from the 1960s, charges a premium of about 1.25L (may be it gets a feature or two more than it's manual counterpart, I haven't seen the brochure) and still goes laughing to the bank with the money - it has to Maruti. Ridiculous to say the least.

Any information on what kind of Automatic Transmission is being used? In the photograph, it seems to be the same as on Baleno CVT, but I doubt if MSIL will use a CVT. If it is indeed CVT with a Smart Hybrid on a Petrol Car, I am sold, as that option has been left out by any and every Japanese manufacturer.

Pricing is mere positioning of a product in a crowded portfolio , sales will be dismal with these prices and the powertrain and they are calling it's as " The refined SUV" right now .
Discontinued Scross 1.3 CRDi BS4 Diesel with SHVS retailed for 8.49 to 11.29 lakhs !

And the official pics. Just check the cancel button on the steering. They got the spelling wrong in the official image I hope the car doesn't have the wrong spelling.

Compared to the competition which has moved to new generation products the interiors look archaic. Even the transmission they are promoting like going back to the roots as in the 90's the 800 had a model named 800 4 speed.

Quoting my previous post.
Afterall - they proved me wrong within minutes. The steering isn't the same old one. They have made a significant change in it - at least in the media documents. At least we can be pretty sure what part of the things was done in-house in India! The fun side of outsourcing.

The pricing for this "SUV" is optimistic. Might help hastening the retirement of this car.

Bland interiors, no major upgrades from the outgoing version and pricing of the alpha so high, an automatic from the 60's C'mon MSIL. Competition has so much more to offer. I would rather pick the Ecosport/Nexon anyday.

re: Maruti S-Cross 1.5L Smart Hybrid Petrol, now launched at Rs. 8.39 lakhs

The prices for the MT seem identical to the 1.3L DDiS. I remember the Zeta MT DDiS was 9.95L and had many buyers cause it would attract lesser road tax in KA.

So now with a simpler 1.5L NA engine, they are pocketing a fat profit. I remember in Ciaz and Ertiga the Diesel was priced almost a lakh above the 1.5L smart hybrid. So where did that gap go?

Maruti cleverly have launched it at same price thinking people will forget the earlier diesel price and when they do come out with the 1.5L BS6 diesel they can price it higher.

The S-cross is an older gen product and Hyundai have even upgraded the Creta to a newer generation even though both launched within a month apart back in 2014.

re: Maruti S-Cross 1.5L Smart Hybrid Petrol, now launched at Rs. 8.39 lakhs

It's again a half hearted effort by MS for the S-Cross. Though it doesn't have the features nor the engines as the Korean Twins or even the Kicks. But I find the AT interesting. The sub-4m SUV's have a proper AT ending at around 11.7L mark while the Korean Twins start at around 13.7L. The Zeta and Alpha Variants have some decent features along with a good build quality. So I shall definitely consider the S Cross AT if I was shopping for a AT SUV.

But for the MT variants I think the Korean Counterparts offer better VFM than the S-Cross.

Autocar India in conversation with Shashank Srivastava and CV Raman, talks about Engineering the S-Cross petrol and opting against turbo-petrol.
