Regarding the Rs 4,000 crore worth joint venture with Fiat Auto for manufacturing cars and engines, Seth said the company expects the production of cars to commence within the next 6-8 months at Pune.

"We would jointly manufacture Fiat cars that are presently available in Europe. In addition to it, we would be manufacturing CRDi engine here for Tata passenger cars," he said.

Lots of news about Tata-Fiat floating around in the media today? First the Linea exports to Singapore, then an answer from Tata for the Swift Diesel and now this. Seems someone is working hard there?

Tata-Fiat seem to have very big plans both for India and abroad. But what do they mean when they say they will jointly manufacture Fiat cars sold in Europe in Ranjangaon? Will the Bravo be made here :p ? They could launch that car as a lifestyle car here. Boy would that be a great car to have here!

Another piece of news about this alliance says that Tata-Fiat will jointly develop a pick-up for Europeon markets.

Quote:

Fiat and Tata are collaborating on a pickup that will be built by Fiat in Argentina and by Tata in India. Both will export their shared-platform pickup to Europe starting in 2008. Fiat's will have a more powerful 157-horsepower diesel engine built by Fiat. Tata will use its own 140-hp diesel engine.

I am having a good day seeing all these news about Fiat. Hope these news turn out to be a reality soon. But I still doubt they would be able to make the Linea in the 7-8 lakh bracket.

Hopefully the positive side of Fiat (buid, well performing engines, etc..) and Tata side get together. It'll be worse if Tata adopts Fiat A.S.S and Fiat adapts Tata technology.
