According to a media report, Mahindra is likely to launch a special edition of the Thar called the Signature Edition to mark the end of production of the current generation.



The Thar Signature Edition will reportedly be limited to 700 units and is likely to be offered in two colour options - Napoli Black and Aqua Marine. The Signature Edition is expected to come equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels, black bonnet decals and a silver front bumper. It is likely to get Signature Edition badges with Anand Mahindra's signature. Inside, the Signature Edition will reportedly come with leatherette upholstery and front facing rear seats.

The Thar Signature Edition is expected to be powered by a 2.5-litre CRDe 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 105 BHP @ 3,800 rpm and 247 Nm @ 1,800-2,000 rpm and could be paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Mahindra Thar Signature Edition details leaked

According to a media report, Mahindra is planning to launch the Thar Signature Edition, which is expected to be limited to just 700 units. Now, details of this new limited edition have leaked online.



The Thar Signature Edition is being launched to commemorate 70 years of the brand. The leaked images suggest that it is likely to be offered with a special badge bearing Anand Mahindra's signature. It is likely to come in two colour options - Napoli Black and Aquamarine with silver 5-spoke alloy wheels. Inside, the SUV is expected to get Thar branded leatherette upholstery.



The Thar Signature Edition is expected to be powered by a 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 105 BHP @ 3,800 rpm and 247 Nm @ 1,800-2,000 rpm and could be paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.



Meanwhile, the development of the next-generation Thar is already underway.

Wish they had re-introduced chrome finish wheels on this final Thar. Might not look super cool, (a bit tacky?) but they looked nice on the Mahindra Legend.

Looks like Mahindra is doing a Suzuki or wait may be Toyota. An edition which stays true to its name- Look we have a Signature and thus Signature Edition.

So a special edition of the Thar to kind of end this generation. Not a bad idea that way given the new Thar might move to a new segment price wise with BS6 engine and the additional safety equipment. Remember the 1st Gen Thar getting launched at somewhat close to 6 L on road in Bangalore and over the years the price has almost doubled. But yes signature edition would have been really a collectors edition if it had something connected with real off-roading or at least some connection with people who have made off-roading an art in India.

Mahindra is all set to introduce the Thar Signature Edition, a limited edition model of the iconic on-off road SUV, which will soon be discontinued to make way for an all-new, 2nd generation model. A leaked internal document from Mahindra reveals all the features about the Limited Edition Thar, of which only 700 units will be built. The Thar Signature Edition derives its name from a special plaque with Anand Mahindra’s signature on it. It’s likely to be priced at a premium over the regular Thar CRDE, which costs Rs. 9.5 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi.

Meanwhile, here are all the features that the Mahindra Thar Signature Edition will offer.

1. A new aquamarine blue colour borrowed from the Mahindra Marazzo

2. ABS+EBD

3. Signed plaque with Anand Mahindra’s signature

4. New art leather seat covers

5. Decals on the sides

6. Alloy wheels in a new design

7. New front grille insert in black

8. Satin finish for front bumper

Apart from the addition of ABS, which is a life-saving safety feature that has now been made mandatory on all cars sold in India thanks to the Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSAP) norms, there are no other mechanical differences on the Mahindra Thar’s Signature Edition. The SUV continues to use a 2.5 liter CRDE turbocharged diesel engine with 105 Bhp of peak power and 247 Nm of peak torque.

A five speed manual gearbox is standard and so is a four wheel drive transfer case with low and high ratios. The off roader also retains the rear wheel drive layout with the part-time four wheel drive capability, and auto locking hubs on the front wheels. The Thar continues to be an 8 seater with two captain seats at front and two, side facing bench seats at the rear. Power-assisted steering and air conditioning are standard features.

The lower priced DI variants of the Thar have been discontinued and the CRDe version will also bow out in the coming months, once Mahindra exhausts stock of the Signature Edition. In a sense, the Signature Edition of the Thar CRDe is meant to be a stock clearance move by the automaker. The all-new Thar, which has already begun testing on Indian roads, will make its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. It will go on sale from April 2020, and is likely to be pricier than the outgoing model. The all-new, 2nd generation Mahindra Thar is likely to pack in a whole host of improvements including a plusher cabin, better ride quality, sound damping and a factory fitted hard top option. It’ll also pack in a more powerful but smaller, 2 liter-4 cylinder turbo diesel engine and a 6 speed manual gearbox. A four wheel drive system will be standard.

The Alloy on the special edition Thar does not seem all new after all. They are similar to ones seen in second gen Scorpio from 2013.

Looks like an attempt at making Mahindra Legend, certainly not as desirable as Legend. But legend won't do highway runs like this will to reach the offroad destination.

How is this limited edition? 700 is quite a lot, legend was just 60 I guess.

With all new passenger vehicles being sold in India soon requiring a driver-side airbag, speed-warning, seatbelt reminder for front passengers, and rear parking sensors as standard fitment, the vehicle that has none of these features had to do something to clear its remaining stocks.

Yes, as pointed out by everyone, this is a stock clearing excercise...and a pretty lame one at that. Better wait for the new Thar.

Mahindra Thar Signature Edition brochure leaked

The product brochure of the Mahindra Thar Signature Edition has leaked online. It reveals all the details of the upcoming limited edition.



According to the brochure, the Thar Signature Edition will be offered in two colour options - Aqua Marine and Napoli Black. It will have a black grille, while the front bumper will get a silver finish. The vehicle will get decals on both sides and a special edition badge with Anand Mahindra's signature will be found on the driver side front fender. Other features will include clear lens headlamps, side steps, removable canopy and 5-spoke silver alloy wheels.



On the inside, the Signature Edition gets leatherette upholstery with Thar lettering on the front seats and a dual-tone dashboard with a provision to mount a 2-DIN audio system.



Powering the Signature Edition will be the same 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 105 BHP @ 3,800 rpm and 247 Nm of torque @ 1,800-2,000 rpm as the regular Thar. The 5-speed manual gearbox will be retained as well.

Production of the Thar Signature Edition will be limited to 700 units.
