With the general elections underway, Jeep India set out to assist voters in remote areas of India to get to their nearest polling stations.

Tough terrain, extreme temperatures and the lack of transportation are said to affect voter turnout. In remote villages, old people and young mothers with infants have to walk for long distances to reach polling booths. Jeep identified a few villages whose inhabitants were facing such issues and arranged vehicles to ferry residents to their closest polling booths.

The company has released a video that shows a convoy of Compass SUVs ferrying villagers to the polling station. According to Jeep, the cars covered more the 800 km over rough terrain and involved 11 hours of non-stop driving.

Although a marketing exercise, this is a commendable effort by Jeep. The villagers experienced a special ride of their lifetime and Jeep got to promote the capability of its Compass. A win-win scenario for all. Why can't Indian manufacturers come up with such innovative campaigns? Kudos to Jeep!

With elections, we have seen a lot of advertising centered around the Democratic theme.

This one where Jeep is executing is a great presentation. None of these elderly folks would be their consumers /target consumers.

A clever PR exercise.

Ok the video made my eyes a bit moist seeing all those smiles of the peoples who probably never got to ride in such expensive cars in their life. Kudos to Jeep for such an innovative and thoughtful idea.

That is one smart PR exercise. Brilliant idea.
Much better than having shirtless macho heroes showing six pack abs to deliver the tough, go anywhere image. please:

Good awareness campaign.

Not denying its a positive move
but according to EC - "With the Election Commission mandating that no voter should travel more than 2kms to vote, a small team of polling officials travels all the way into the wild to transform a forest office into an exclusive polling station for Bapu"

Guess ferrying the poll booth set up would have been an easier task stupid:

What a brilliant PR exercise, and something that actually helped people as well.

Managed to get good branding, helped an important cause and showcased the vehicle's capability in one go! Marketing teams, take note.

PR exercise at its brilliant best...so much better that keeping the car in a cricket stadium and give it to a rich cricketer for his good performance in the series :D

The thing I loved the most about the video (apart from getting the people to polling booth) is the background music...nothing apart from the music of tyres rolling on rough ground! Sweet!

Beautiful ad. Absolutely flawless PR excercise, well executed.

I would have loved to volunteer with Jeep to drive people around.

Wonder two things , how did they keep cars so clean despite such dusty routes and why no multiple shades chosen !

Wow, that was a really innovative step by Jeep. All those smiles at the end of the video were just priceless!

Strange thing is that I couldn't see any of the passengers using seat belt in the video. Or did I miss it somehow?

This kind of shows a mirror to the government about the public transportation it is providing to its citizens.

I think such initiatives work more towards brand building than getting customers. The FCA marketing team is doing pretty good these days. It all started with a giant Jeep hoarding on the Mumbai-Pune expressway.

I hope the 'Jeep' brand grows in India, because that's all FCA have here.

Look at those smiles. PR exercise notwithstanding, finally for these people it was actually 'Desh ka sabse bada tyohaar' with this ride if a lifetime .

+1 for presenting the fact.

In my assembly, there is a village and the polling station 1.5 KM away. In year 2000, Bansagar dam project started and the area between the polling station and the village was submerged in water. Now aerial distance is still 1.5 KM but actually one has to travel 11 KMs to reach the polling station.

Since 2013, I've raised 3 complaints with EC (It's Election Commission not Electronic Combustion :) ), however everything has been in vain. It's 2019, votes were cast on 6th of May with the same status quo.

Coming to the second point where someone said that these villagers got the chance of enjoying a ride in a Jeep Compass despite they are not farmers. I want to tell you that these people enjoy rides in Toyota Fortuner, Isuzu MUX during day of voting lol:. EC has become little strict since 2013 and ferrying voters is not allowed but still they have lesser control due to Bahubalis.

Last but not the least, Good Job Jeep.

What a wonderful initiative by Jeep, I absolutely loved it. Just look at the smiles on the faces of these villagers, you can be rest assured they are not going to forget this experience. And of course, it was a brilliant PR exercise well! Kudos to Jeep.
