The Bolero - original one, not the TUV/ Neo - is also in camouflage. Looks like it's going nowhere, and will continue sharing showroom space with the Neo!

But if M&M is looking for 4*+ rated products, both the current Scorpio and the Bolero/ Neo wouldn't cut it. Wonder how they're gonna handle that...

Is it going to be Scorpio < 3 door Thar < 5 door Thar < New Scorpio < XUV700 or Scorpio < 3 door Thar < 5 door Thar < XUV700 < New Scorpio. They will also have the XUV500 coming in right ?
Maybe they will slap-on the XUV500 badge on it? We have been hearing this to be the Scorpio for ever and if it's not, then they got only the XUV5OO plate left unless they create a new one or extend the Scorpio name somehow.

The fear of new Scorpio being placed above XUV700 might become a reality if this comment on one of the FB groups is true.

The latest spy shots of new Scorpio being tested alongside Endeavor give similar indication.

Maybe ,or maybe not .Mahindra also benchmarked the XUV700 against the Skoda Kodiaq ,maybe they're doing the same thing here ,benchmarking their upcoming product against cars that are a segment higher?

Besides , if the Scorpio was to be placed above the XUV700 , wouldn't Mahindra give it more features ,or at least the major features available on the XUV ,like ADAS, a panoramic sunroof ,a full digital instrument cluster and a bigger infotainment screen?

This is the pickup version which has already been caught testing. Believe I saw in Mahindra's future roadmap, the next gen Bolero is the big thing after the next gen Scorpio/5 door Thar/XUV900/BEVs.

.
If they are going to price this above the Innova, maybe not fall flat in their face, but definitely will have a reality check.

Just hope Mahindra has the usual modus operandi. Aggressive initial pricing, with subsequent price increases with additional equipment. Just because the Fortuner has the segment to itself doesn't mean Scorpio should be eyeing it. Scorpio has the whole 10-30 lakhs BoF SUV segment to itself.

re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Reading through the conversation on Scorpio being placed higher compared to XUV700 in Mahindra lineup, it seems unlikely. The spied interiors and the feature list like regular sunroof, no merc like display, 6 speaker sound system, no ADAS etc. does not seem to be a competitive fit against fortuner. Mahindra is known to shake up a segment like they did with XUV700, if they had plans like this, Scorpio would have had some features way beyond XUV700. And like a gentleman posted earlier mahindra has an entire segment of true BOF SUV with 4X4 capability in price range of 15-25 lacs all to itself where volumes also will be much higher compared to a highly risky bet of playing in fortuner segment with low volumes even if product is successful.

re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Mahindra aspiring to target Fortuner might be great; however I personally feel that if they seriously want to do it, then the Scorpio/Scorpion would not make a cut. They would need to name it different.
Scorpio has been in the market for over two decades now and that is sufficient to build a perspective in people's mind. Suddenly pricing it right in the Fortuner category would probably not fetch any takers. Instead, create a differentiation in the product as compared to current offerings.

Just my two cents worth!!!

re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

While I wish M&M do not place the new facelifted Scorpio in Fortuner category, we should not forget that the existing Scorpio too is going to continue with a mild facelift. If we assume that it may have only a base model or two to cater to the rural and semi-urban customer base, still there is no price gap available for the new Scorpio without overlapping few variants of XUV700.
So it will be interesting to see how M&M positions the new facelift.

re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

If you look at all the recent Mahindra product launches, the consistent theme they follow is -

1. Use social media to speculate that the Product will be priced a segment higher. Sometimes I feel they even use Team-bhp to pass this message.

2. When the actual product launches they undercut its own segment by good margin by launching a barebone variant and other variants priced either similar or above segment.

3. So the launch will create huge uproar among public that the Product is too VFM and it is going to destroy the entire competition. It will receive too much publicity among potential customers.

4. With in a year, the barebone variant will disappear.

5. With in a year and half, the price of all variants will reach a segment above price.

6. But people will still believe the product is value for money.

re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Fortuner is currently in the 40-50L price bracket. Nobody is talking about a Scorpio that costs 40-50L. Mahindra can do everything Fortuner has and still price the top end 4x4 AT model at about 30-35L on road. I don't expect a 25L Scorpio(Or whatever the new version is called) with 4x4 AT and 5 star rating. Of course if Mahindra manages to do it, nothing better.

I guess this seems to be the modus operandi by MandM before every launch, thinking they could place the current vehicle a segment higher. I doubt if they would do it. Scorpio in my opinion could be 6000-8000 units per month vehicle and they are just testing waters to see how it can be priced IMHO.

The testing along side the Endy, I believe could have been part of the failed JV exercise that happened a few years back. Maybe some tech is shared and they are doing the benchmarking or some technical testing of some sort. You never know.

They have become experts at dangling carrots and begin to blame the inflation for subsequent price increases

Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio base variant spied

The next-generation Mahindra Scorpio has been caught on camera by Youtuber Mumbiker Nikhil.

We've been told that it could be a base variant of the Scorpio and it could get side-facing rear seats similar to the Bolero. The shape of the tail lamp cluster is also clearly visible in these images. Other notable details include the steel wheels and the rear bumper protector.

Last month a leaked image had given us a glimpse of the car's front fascia. Higher variants of the Scorpio are likely to get a lot of chrome details on the exterior.

The new Scorpio is expected to be based on a ladder-frame chassis. It could be offered with a 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 158 BHP, paired with either a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission. An all-wheel-drive system could be offered on select variants.

Thanks to Sachin Koli for the heads-up.

re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

The tailgate reminds me of the Xylo which in NO WAY is a good thing for the Scorpio. The biggest USP of the Scorpio is its squared and boxy shape. Not sure if buyers in non-metropolitan areas will like the new curvy design. Also, the tail lights silhouette is quite similar to the Ertiga/XL6.

Is it the photo angle, which makes new Scorpio look very long ? It looks like an MPV in this photo. Also quiet a long rear overhang too.

re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

I thought that Side Facing Rear seats were discontinued from the Thar because GNCAP would have awarded Zero Stars to the entire range. Why would the Scorpio be equipped with the same if the same clause is applicable?
