Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

While I love the design, wonder why they would not like to replace the current Scorpio. The only explanation being that this is in proportion to the Alturas and might be much bigger in width and length ( Like Alturas ).

But, have to say from the spy pics, am disappointed to see the interiors. Was expecting something similar to XUV700 screen.

Yes, but the seat base seems to lack width, and that creates the impression of high legroom. Seems fit for children only. Also, like XUV700 there is no boot space with the 3 rows up. Those two are bummers for me.

Doubt given the target segment expectations, whether new Scorpio needed to be revolutionary. All they look for an abuse friendly vehicle with great road presence, with long lasting (albeit low quality interiors), which the old one still is and so it was still selling well. For every other expectation, there is the XUV700.

They have given the new Scorpio a bit of everything- a Prado like front, a Gloster like side, an Alturas like stance and of course the Volvo-ish rear lights. The only part that it retains with the old design in the slab like rear door and overhang, and the horizontal door handle- probably the only sore parts in an overall great design. I actually find it far more desirable than the MUVish XUV700 stance.

From the interior pics, i find a lot of similarities with the last gen XUV500, which for it's audience should be sufficient enough. Now all we have to watch out for is whether the gear lever still shakes

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

M&M have two different case studies within the company itself when it comes to product launches. Firstly the Marazzo and it's premium'ish pricing and secondly the hugely successful debuts of XUV 500 & 700 with its mouth watering prices. We all know which proved to be more successful.

Considering the brand prowess of the Scorpio and the fears of internal product cannibalism, M&M might be considering going for the former scenario. The market on the other hand I feel is waiting for the latter and looking forward to some very attractive launch prices.

Going with the company's mass-masala theme/ catchphrases, all I'd like to say is that 'I am waiting!' :-)

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

SCORPIO-N : I believe Mahindra is going to play on this word in the future, we will see ads with saying are you a SCORPION yet ? Or something similar

Or the New Scorpio launched at exciting prices

But for us enthusiast the first thing which comes to mind is N - Nos or Neutral

Majority of the sales of current gen Scorpio comes from rural areas and smaller cities/towns. Scorpio"N" is targeted to be more premium offering with higher starting price. Mahindra probably don't want to lose the market to some one else. While the new Thar is a successful vehicle, rural/agri market have given this a miss. The Thar DI and CRDe both were retailing under 10L and were quite popular among people looking for utility especially in smaller cities/towns/villages.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Extremely unhappy with the approach at the first place without evaluating on road looks, specs, dimensions, features,

Why? because this is a mediocre, conservative mode for a vehicle which made Mahindra enter the personal car segment. What is Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N when you are working on your best product till date, its being defensive before the start of battle, your business team is not 100% confident on the product sucesss

They did the same thing to Bolero. Bolero, Scorpio, XUV are brand even in isolation, you need to be super careful in their positioning or having sub brands,

Bajaj played sub brand architecture well with Pulsar but this approach requires a distinctive offering against each which Bajaj justified by catering to different audiences (150/ 180/220/ NS ) but with XUV catering to more family type audience both Scorpio N & Classic are focusing on same cohort, similar price point & similar offering, not sure what they are doing

Introducing Innova and shutting Qualis (doing good numbers) was aggressive move, it showed confidence level of Toyota on Innova

Introducing Baleno in a segment where MS had successful swift was a bold move, it did not eat away the share of swift but created its own market

Innova (Old) and Dzire (old, tour) were moved to yellow board only when crysta / new dzire launched (differentiation in the target market)

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

My goodness, the latest interior pictures does not look like an upgraded Scorpio at all to me. The quality of the bucket seats (the thickness), the sun roof thickness, the space in the last row, it oozes of quality for sure. The modd-ed photo with those knobbly tires looks awesome. Mahindra made me book Thar and after gaining some sense (luckily due to their delivery misadventure) I cancelled, then gain I tried XUV7OO, no luck due to again delivery fiasco, and the Scorpio is the one I destined to buy? I had an 2006 Scorpio and it aged well and it is such an monster on the road. I am really contemplating now.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Finally the official photos are out along with the name of the vehicle.

Love the buzz it has generated on our forum. Personally it looks good to me and I expect the vehicle to do well.

There has been a lot of stress on the name by a few members but I feel that the name doesn’t really matter as long as the vehicle performs well and caters to the owner’s requirements. Going back a couple of decades some of us might recall the launch of Daewoo Cielo or Maruti Esteem. Both cars had unconventional names and were accepted based on their performance.
Also, I see lots of posts mentioning Mr Bose and his contribution or lack of it to the design of the new car. Maybe M&M didn’t want to stray too much from the original design of the Scorpio which is still selling well in spite of all the criticism which came it’s way over the years.
Lastly, regarding interiors, it’s good to have all bells and whistles in a car but for a true blue SUV interiors aren’t a deciding factor to make a sale. It’s the engine and drive quality along with go anywhere capability which matters.

Eagerly waiting to test drive the all new Scorpio N.
Cheers.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

I think it's a smart decision to completely sacrifice the boot space (with all three rows up) to increase the leg room for third row. Anyway the 200 odd litres of boot space isn't useful in most scenarios. To store any serious luggage, one needs to fold the third row, which is still possible to do. At least when boot is not being used, the third row will have more space.

Attaching couple of leaked interior images for reference:

The real big problem is that the third row doesn't seem to offer a 50:50 or 60:40 split, which could have enabled the Scorpio N to be a 6 seater with one seat folded, with some decent luggage carrying capacity. This can be a deal breaker for several people.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Just for nitpicking, during the last few seconds of the video, it can be seen that only the rear wheels are spinning. Why not spin all wheels if it has 4WD?

I like the black render more than the original. The dechromes front grille with ATV tyres, it looks like the "daddy" they referred it as.
