Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Scorpio-N caught in black shade inside factory premises, seemingly ready for dispatch.

Also, a peek at the instrument cluster of top & base variants.

If this turns out to be correct, pretty awesome. A lot of people who need a bigger 4x4 than Thar, but still at that 15L (+/-) ex-showroom budget, will finally have an option! At the same time, it seems to have been ensured that Thar doesn't get cannibalized in a big manner. Lower variants of Automatic Scorpio N don't have 4x4. Also if you want Petrol 4x4, Thar will still be the only option.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

I checked with a local dealer in Chennai. When I spoke to the SA, they wanted a cheque for ₹21000 along with my Aadhar/PAN card to get the initial booking going on. They will not deposit the cheque till the customer sees, drives and confirms.

Looking for a top end 4x4 version. M&M has mastered the art of keeping the excitement ticking.

Seems like combination of 4x4 and automatic will be available only with Diesel Z8 and Z8L models. But what could be the difference between both variants?

Said to be similar to the Luxury pack in XUV 700. Some additional features. Feature distribution across variants isn’t out there yet.

Ya I just noticed this on their official website.
Dealer at Amritsar he told me yesterday that demo car will be available at 9:30 am on 27th June. Now with this time (5:30. pm) I am sure plans have changed. Will call them tomorrow again and confirm. By the way, Amritsar dealer isn't taking any pre-bookings

Folks, there is no way the new Scorpio N can be available for test drives (or even on display) from 27th June. Please refer to the quote below from GTO on another thread. The media drives are scheduled for early next week and their reviews will go live on morning of 30th June. The vehicles can't be publicly out there (even in dealer stockyards) before this. Otherwise what's the point of offering exclusive access to select auto journalists?

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Heard that the Scorpio-N's launch has been changed to 01 July.

Wasn't mentioning earlier as it seemed incorrect info, but reading the posts above, now wonder if it might be true. It fits in fairly with the media embargo being lifted on the 30th, which would encourage the buzz on the 1st.

There was also a mention of the customers first getting to see the vehicles and the booking coming up later. It is not through any channel I can be sure of, and things were vague, so please interpret the above accordingly.

Further, if true, it just might be an indicator of the ScorpioN not being priced as low as many guess; that Mahindra wants people to get a feel of the car for better acceptance of a higher price. On the other hand, it could yet again be a means to first buld up an expectation of a higher price, followed by the joy and mad-rush by a lower-than-expected price.

Wow, that's great news However what makes me wonder is the cringy advertisement catchphrase! In all honesty, if the Scorpio N is the big daddy of SUV's what will the world call the Fortuner's, the Endeavour's the Gloster's All the more power to Mahindra for a wonderful product but the advertisement catchphrase sums up the psyche of most people who use a SUV as a weapon on the roads.

Makes one recollect the advertisement ford had for the endeavour where they actually spread a different message on media channels whereby Ford in crux conveyed bigger your car more your responsibilities.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Seems Mahindra is trying to avoid the booking issues faced during XUV7OO launch. Although unofficial, my dealer has taken my Adhaar and PAN card to punch in booking once they get the system access from Mahindra. Additionally, I will get a call from Mahindra central team to confirm my booking once punched by dealer (he still does not want me to pay booking amount though).

A Golden/Yellow seems to be confirmed as per him.

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

A few observations after taking a look at the long and complex variant distribution:
  • I'm just not sure why Mahindra needs such a huge number of variants. It is almost as though they wanted to set a Limca book of records feat on the launch with the most variants ever. For instance, the mid-spec Z4 Diesel variant is apparently available in both 132 PS and 175 PS Tunes as options! This is quite crazy as M&M could have easily limited the higher tune to the Z6 and Z8 variants, thereby reducing the complexity of the range.
  • One reason for there being so many variants, could be to straddle a very wide price band. With small steps of say Rs.30-50K increments from variant to variant, having 37 variants they can get a span a price band of 12-18 lakhs, between the bottom variant and the top variant, while every step can seem justifiable in terms of added value over the previous one to command the premium. So if the base Z2 Petrol Manual starts at 12 lakhs, the top end Diesel Auto Z8L can easily go up to 25 lakhs. There is a lot of crowding in the upper reaches of the price range, with 6 seaters, Auto+4WD, Luxury pack options. M&M knows this is where they will make the most money and so providing a top heavy variant spread is intentional.
  • The absence of a petrol automatic with four wheel drive is quite a pity. The only options for buyers looking for seven seater petrol automatic with 4WD or AWD are the Volkswagen Tiguan all space (which has been reporting a number a DSG issues lately), the Skoda Kodiak (which is way overpriced). The XUV700, Toyota Fortuner (which is heavily overpriced), the MG Hector Plus (which has an anaemic engine) are not available with 4WD/AWD. The Jeep Meridian, the MG Gloster, Mahindra Alturas, Tata Safari are all not available with a petrol engine at all. The XUV700 is available in petrol Auto, but without AWD. M&M could have included at least one or two Petrol Auto variants in Z8 and Z8L levels.
  • M&M could have offered the six seater captain chairs option in at least the Z6 variant if not the Z4 variant also, instead of reserving it for the Z8 variant alone. This could have allowed a chauffeur-driven small businessman who wants the comfort of the captain seat but does not require Auto transmission, to opt for an affordable Z4 or Z6 variant.
  • It is a great move to make automatic transmission available right from the Z4 variant, both for diesel and petrol drive-trains. This will popularise the AT transmission in the rural areas and small towns where the Big Daddy will be king. The Mahindra AT SUVs are really butter smooth to drive and have really matured in terms of reliability and fuel efficiency. The Aisin transmission coupled with the new generation of Mahindra mHawk engine has vey low speed or FE penalties over the corresponding Manuals. I think it's high time that a broader audience starts to enjoy the comfort and benefits of this transmission. Hopefully the AT is priced at a reasonable premium only over the MTs.

I was tabulating the variants to try and get my head around the vast and bizarre world described by the Rushlane article, and here is what I came up with, which should hopefully help other BHP-ians trying to decipher this puzzle. However, I get a different answer for the total number of variants (39) if I follow were to all the bullets in the article!

Re: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N

Offering AT OR 4X4 at Z4 looks good on paper, unless they price it too optimistically.

One small correction, Diesel AT is offered with only one engine, for all variants including Z4.

Thanks for the catch - updated the sheet to remove it, still arriving at 38 variants.

Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio | Now revealed as Scorpio-N-screenshot-20220625-12.25.30-pm.png

In terms of feature distribution, I would expect M&M to take a similar route as XUV700 (MX/AX3/AX5/AX7/AX7L corresponding to Z2/Z4/Z6/Z8/Z8L). My guess below:

Z2:
  • All Basic Mandatory safety features such as 2 airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors etc
  • Basic Infotainment with 4 speakers (Maybe totally missing also if they go for aggressive starting price)
  • Essential Convenience Features Seat height adjustment, Center Armrest, Power Electrically adjustable ORVMs etc.
  • 3rd Row features like dedicated AC Vents, 2nd Row split & tumble functions etc. - This is one reason Scorpio N may have a higher launch price than the XUV700. The latter had a base version with only 2 rows of seats but ScorpioN will come with entire set of costs for enabling the 3rd row seating right from the base variant itself.
  • Steel Wheels, Fabric Seats

Z4:
  • Standard 8 inch infotainment with Android Auto & Apple Car Play & Adrenox Connect
  • 6 Speakers and better sound system
  • LED DRLs and Fog Lamps
  • Convenience Features like 2nd Row Armrest & Cupholder etc.
  • Steel Wheels & Fabric Seats

Z6:
  • Alloy Wheels
  • Sunroof
  • LED Headlamps
  • ESP (Auto Only)
  • Curtain Airbags
  • 2nd Row dedicated Lamps
  • Fabric Seats

Z8
  • Cruise Control
  • 6 airbags
  • TPMS
  • Push Button Start
  • Leatherette Seats
  • Power Driver's seat
  • Reverse Camera
  • ESP for Manual & Auto Variants
  • 4WD
  • Power-fold ORVM

Z8L
  • Blind View Monitor & Visual Recording
  • Keyless Entry
  • Wireless charging
  • Sony Sound System

BTW, does anyone know the what does NE mean in the below? There are 7 Diesel 2WD variants listed twice, the second set with NE attached at the end.
