According to the Mahindra website, the XUV500 will be offered with Apple CarPlay from May 31, 2019. The feature will be available on the top-spec W11(O) trim only.



The W11(O) variant comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and offers Android Auto connectivity. Other features include Connected Apps, electric sunroof, brake energy regeneration, puddle lamps and 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

The XUV500 is powered by a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 153 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and 360 Nm of torque @ 1,750-2,800 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission, while all-wheel drive is available as an option.

Can only W11 trim owners own iPhone? What kind of discrimination is this?

I fail to read the minds of product planning teams with almost every auto manufacturer; Mahindra is no different.

So does this mean the lower variants have different hardware compared to the W11(O)?

If not it would be just a matter of an update which should be made available to other variants and older cars with the same HU like what Maruti did for it's cars to support Android Auto. I still believe Mahindra might just roll out an update.

This is better than a 199 USD update as offered by Lexus on some of its model.

Lexus recently announced that it is bringing CarPlay to some older vehicles, following the launch of CarPlay in new 2019 Lexus vehicles last September.

CarPlay can be installed in the 2018 LS, LC, RC, RC F, and NX, and as pointed out by iPhone in Canada, the new CarPlay options are available in both the U.S. and Canada.


Lexus says that it is "pleased" to offer the software enhancement for $199, and Lexus owners who are interested should contact their Lexus dealer for more information.

Lexus says that new software will be installed on the Lexus Multimedia System to add the CarPlay feature, and a Lexus dealer is required to install the update.

The wide availability of CarPlay spurred Toyota to reverse course and support Apple's platform after all, and the first 2019 Toyota and Lexus vehicles with CarPlay were announced in early 2018.

Not done Mahindra! XUV500 was a pioneer to bring in new features during its launch. I think the management has made a bad move by offering only W11(O) with Apple CarPlay. When the UI of the infotainment system is common across W7, W9 and W11 as well as XUV300. Why can't they give an update to all the owners alike?
It's hardly gonna cost a few hundred rupees for the update and they are counting pennies on their most popular car which brought a premium image for Mahindra.

I bought a W11 (O) Auto on 05 Jun 2019, its a Mar 2019 mfg car.
No Car Play as yet in the Infotainment system.

Not sure if a update will offer that.

I just checked with the manager at my service centre and they are still waiting for the patch file apparently. He did indicate that this would apply to most of the Plush models, but I am not sure about it.

The Carplay update patch file was released yesterday. I am having my XUV upgraded on Monday.

Mahindra XUV500 gets Apple CarPlay on W11 trim

Mahindra has updated the infotainment system in the XUV500 with Apple CarPlay connectivity. This feature is only available on the top-spec W11 variant.



Apple CarPlay allows iPhone users to connect their phones to the infotainment system. It allows access to calls, music and Siri search. It can be operated using the steering controls or through voice commands. Users can also access Apple Music audiobooks, podcasts and CarPlay supported third-party audio applications. The infotainment system also has features such as Connected Apps, Emergency Call and Ecosense.

Existing owners of the W11 variant can also get Apple CarPlay by getting their infotainment systems updated at a Mahindra authorised workshop.

Got software update on my W11 Auto today from Harbir Automobiles, Chandigarh.

Apple Car Play is amazing, smooth interface, Google Maps navigation on centre console, Siri reading out SMSs.

But, Siri does not search for destinations in India

Inquired from service engineer why Car Play is not available for W9 or W7?
As per him the hardware for those models is different. Also the base firmware in W11 is version 16 where as it’s version 10 for other models.

Quick update: I too got the update on Monday and it has been working good so far. Siri integration works well too. I can't wait for iOS13 to be released - major feature of iOS13 is the multitasking ability, as in, being able to run maps on the HU while doing something else on the phone.

I have a W10, 2nd gen XUV 500 AWD, earlier when android auto was offered our systems were updated. Looks like no iOS update for us? It’s a major inconvenience since replacing stock system in XUV 500 is not straight forward. I’m thinking of asking the HU be replaced to W11 HU, is it a feasible solution ?

I checked with India Garage at Chennai, apparently the wiring sockets are completely different, hence replacing W11 HU on W10 is not feasible. Unless Mahindra is kind enough to roll out updates to other variants, guess no car play for the rest of us :-(
