BS6-compliant Mercedes E-Class launched in India

Mercedes-Benz has launched the BS6-compliant E-class long wheelbase in India with prices ranging from Rs 57.5 lakh for the base petrol and going up to Rs 62.5 lakh for the top-end diesel.
BS6-compliant E-class LWB available only with 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines (E 200, E 220d), the V6 e350d is no longer available.
It gets some new features and some features have trickled down from the e350d. things like rear wireless charging, 13 speaker sound system, touch screen in the rear arm rest etc.

I have a feeling E350d might come back with the new inline six engine from the S-Class

The E350d is not discontinued. It wasn't mentioned in the press release. The official website still shows the E350d along with the E220d and E200 with their respective new variant options.

At the most, it will get the BS 6 compliant 6 cylinder motor from the S-Class as rightly said by fx45.

I really hope that's the case, I think they'll take it of the website when the stock finishes and bs6 is mandatory.
(I also thought that it'll get the inline 6, but the press release had no mention of it)

Re: BS6-compliant Mercedes E-Class launched in India

The BS6 E350d will definitely be coming, either a bit early or in time for the BS6 deadline. It's a sweet engine and yes, customers will have one additional maintenance component. From our S-Class review. Does anyone know what they charge for Adblue in India?

Quote:
This is the reason for the BS-VI compliance. S350d gets a 25-liter Adblue tank, which is filled with a mixture of 32% urea and deionised water. It is injected into the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) Converter to reduce NOx levels. Note that if the car runs out of AdBlue, the engine won’t start. Typically 1L of Adblue is needed every 560 - 860 km (depending on how the car is driven):

About Rs 3000 per 10 Ltr. S- Class as well E & C, can carry 25 Ltrs and they refill at the time of service usually around 12-15 Km.

Re: BS6-compliant Mercedes E-Class launched in India

How much is the price difference between the BS4 and BS6 E220d?
I know the difference will not matter much to a Mercedes already expensive price tag, but may be this can give us an idea about the possible price increase in say a Honda City iDtec.

7500 per service interval of 15000 kms should be fine. But the main issue would be availability in remote areas or highways in case it gets over.

How are trucks managing the adblue thing? Can the same thing used on the Mercedes one too?

AdBlue, generically called Diesel Exhaust Fluid, is already available in India. Spotted this at the Reliance fuel station on the ALE in March this year.

Theoretically, this can certainly be used in a Mercedes diesel as well as in a Tata diesel engine. But whether Mercedes owners would want to, is a different question.

Thanks to Rajat for sending this information in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP page!

I don't know about Mercedes' pricing of AdBlue, but it's available at petrol pumps at a cost of around 1000-1500 per 20L as it's also used in trucks now.

In addition to the features you have mentioned It also gets the S Class dual digital display and the soft close doors as well. The sound system is by Burmester.

Not sure is these features are available on the 220 d or will be reserved for the 350 d.

There are two versions, Expression and Exclusive. The latter gets the goodies from the E350d + dual digital display as well as screens at the rear. Am not sure if the E350d will re-emerge due to low volumes and also to reduce the overlap with the S Class

Perhaps Mercedes should have introduced the 300d state of tune for the E -- possibly without the air suspension -- and ditch both 220d and 350d. That should differentiate it sufficiently from the S-class.

There was definitely no price overlap between the two the E350d was around 72.xx lakhs ex-showroom while the S350d is nearly double the cost at 1.35cr ex-showroom (both pre-discounts of course). In fact they have a whole other 'segment' in between both with the CLS.

Even if it's a low volume model, they have many other models with the higher powered variants in their CKD portfolio still available, so I don't see why the BS6 E350d wouldn't be available here.

.
You are technically right but
  • Many folks considering the S350d might not feel short-changed in going for a E350d
  • The E350d was not a big seller hence initial homologation costs might not be worth it
