Mercedes to Launch G350d in India - November 2019

Mercedes-Benz India will be launching a more humble version of its G-Class in India, the G 350 d which will be an entry-level offering for the premium SUV.

In terms of positioning, the G 350 d will be above the GLS SUV that is priced at Rs 1.08 crore, on road. The G 350 d is expected to be priced at around Rs 1.48 crore, substantially lower than its extrovert sibling, G 63 AMG at Rs 2.5 crore, rivalling the Range Rover Sport 3-litre diesel.

Seems like the G-Wagen will get more "affordable" come November. Will definitely be launched as a CBU so on road Mumbai will be 1.70ish crores and that might be pre-options.

And people will mistake it for a Force Gurkha with a 3 pointed star stuck onto it.

This is a 60s German army design maybe with a few updates maybe - but just what are the updates? That boxy body and round headlamps aren't it.

The interiors are basic and built literally like tanks - military specification, fine. What else is new and updated from previous generations?

Far from it, it has been re-engineered totally from the ground up while maintaining the same silhouette. Interiors are pretty plush

End of the G63 AMG's exclusivity. Now we're going to see more of 350d's with AMG kits on. Good news for people who would actually use it offroad though.

Oh my my, this is the absolute best news I have heard in a long time. The AMG G was always there but it could do as much as a GLS/X7/Q7 would, but this would go straight to the likes of LC/Prado.

I love this design to bits and that of the Defender.

The second-generation G-Class gets an updated front fascia featuring new LED headlights and LED tail lights and a redesigned interior. It has a digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system and a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel.

The G 350d is expected to be powered by a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder diesel engine that produces 282 BHP and 600 Nm. The engine is likely to be paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system.

At present, Mercedes-Benz only offers the AMG G 63 in India. It comes with an AMG grille and bodykit as well as larger wheels. It is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 engine that generates 577 BHP and 850 Nm of torque.

I think this is a good move by MBIL and a long time pending one. They always offered the G wagen in AMG guise making it out of reach of most of the Indian customers. That doesn't mean the G 350d will be affordable but still at around 1 crore ex showroom it will be less than half of what the 63AMG costs.

The current gen G class is also properly luxurious and still has not lost it's old world charm and offroad ability. So now we have a somewhat offbeat option to the usual premium luxury SUVs.

Will have its takers . There are many fans of the stylish G! Now with better on-road behaviour & the practical 6-cylinder diesel, this will sway the decisions of some luxury SUV buyers.

Will depend on the prices, if the difference between AMG and Diesel is more like 50 Lac, there may not be many takers.

Remember, Big Boys need complementing Sound from such vehicles I am not sure if just the looks will be enough.

It's not going to be launched at 1 Crore surely. I am expecting more like 1,40-1,60.

From the article that was mentioned in the OP -

I think that is quite steep for a 350d engine.

Forget the engine, the car is hand-built and will last a lifetime. It rivals only the Land Cruiser in ability and longevity
