Volkswagen to launch World Cup editions of the Polo, Ameo & Vento

As India braces for the 2019 Cricket World Cup, the 'Limited Edition Specialist Group' Volkswagen India snatches the opportunity on launching another Limited Edition of is cars from its ageing portfolio.

Expect many more Limited editions and face-lifts from the group as the next generation of cars for India are expected only in 2021.

the Germans from Volkswagen are offering support for India with ‘Cup’ edition models
The Polo, Ameo and Vento Cup Editions will feature decals on the side, new leather upholstery on the seats with contrast stitching and blue and white piping, the headlamps will get a blackened finish, and the car will sit on new multi-spoke allow wheels.

The final touch is a new ‘Cup Edition’ badge on the front quarter panel of the car..

Mechanically, the Polo, Ameo and Vento will most likely remain untouched and will come with the same power and drive train options. Although at the moment, it is unclear which combinations of power and drivetrains will be offered with the Cup Edition models.
The Limited edition cars will be launched tomorrow.

Quote:
Only limited numbers of units of each vehicle are expected to be sold through VW dealerships across India.

Not again!

Put some stickers and name it a sports edition, add a badge and some accessory, name it 'cup edition'.
When they reduced the displacement of the 1.2L Polo to 1 L, they could have named it - Power cut edition!

Seems like Maruti, Ford and VW are giving each other a tough competition with these limited edition launches.

Sometimes i really miss the 'haha' button which is available in Facebook!

Nothing more than an exercise in futility at this point. What they need to do is build themselves a flux capacitor in one of their models and time warp us all into 2021. This could save us, VW owners, a lot of embarrassment.

This is becoming pretty hilarious. Considering the amount of time and money they have spent on all these face-lifts, the could have probably designed and manufactured a new car from grounds up.

I could only imagine how awkward one feels after buying this 'limited' edition car and looking at the badge once the world cup is over . Guess Volkswagen is confident and afraid that they could never launch another car which can be even slightly better than the existing ones, hence they must be thinking why not tinker with these.

Re: Volkswagen to launch World Cup editions of the Polo, Ameo & Vento

Next up, VW should launch a "regular" limited edition.

Customer in the showroom = So, which special edition are you going to show me today?

Salesperson = Sir, we have a very unique piece, after 5 years of continuously selling limited editions. Here is the "regular" edition VW Polo.

C = So, what's new on the outside? Inside? Stickers? Seat covers? Wheel caps? Colours? Different head-unit?

S = No sir, that's the beauty of it. This one is bone stock, just as any regular VW car was before. It'll be the rarest new VW in the sea of special editions you see on the road. Your car will be truly unique in your society / office parking.

C =

S = Sir, this is a limited edition "regular" version. You must buy it before its replaced by the next generation of limited editions. If you want a regular Polo, this is your only chance .

VW India has totally lost it and no wonder Skoda management is taking over. Outside India, VW calls the shots and considered superior brand than Skoda. I guess it happens only in India. When you visit the showroom you will find they are all into just polo and ameo. No apparent excitement or pride when you talk or ask about Tiguan or Passat. They dont even have these to sell or display. For Passat , its just the black colour, here's a hefty discount and take it from here asap kind of discussions. Great products but very poor planning and execution. Skoda is now different story but still miles to go in terms of improvement in after sales services.

Why a Game of thrones edition was not released is beyond my understanding. . This kind of event based badging is usually done for FMCG products and is not sensible for cars I feel.

Re: Volkswagen to launch World Cup editions of the Polo, Ameo & Vento

They're just hopeless at this point, it seems. Just wants to get some cars moving off the dealerships, I'm seeing larger discount offers on VW cars than for other companies, in recent regional newspapers.

I adore the build quality, elegance and finesse of their cars ( polo although dated inside, still looks classy after all these years ) and it's sad to watch such a great company being reduced to performing such cosmetic surgeries. Hope the new management comes to their senses soon. The Indian customer base between 2-12 lac ( with exclusions of course, but enthusiasts form a smaller fraction of the customer base in this bracket) has proved to VW that they prefer cars with good fuel efficiency, fuss-free after sales experience and loads of gimmicky features over overengineered ones with tank like build quality. If I remember correctly, they were the first manufacturer in India to implement laser welding. Don't they lose a lot of money for these things?

Re: Volkswagen to launch World Cup editions of the Polo, Ameo & Vento

Is VW or VW India sponsor for Cricket World Cup? Remember IPL editions from VW India, however at that time VW India was official partner for IPL, does any such partnership/sponsorship exist for Cricket world cup 2019?

#GermanyCheersForIndia: For most Germans, World Cup would mean Football world cup, definitely not Cricket. Why coin a new hashtag just for the sake of it. I feel key word in 'digital marketing' is marketing, digital is just a medium.

Re: Volkswagen to launch World Cup editions of the Polo, Ameo & Vento

Hmm.. what's next?

Diwali edition, Eid edition, Raksha Bandhan edition.

When the festivals will run out, there might be Kerala edition, Goa edition, Bihar edition.

When all the states run out, they can go to their capitals, Mumbai edition, Patna edition, Lucknow edition.

Another idea is, they can randomly choose an employee's name, like Ram Singh edition, Manik Dave edition, Shamim Ansari edition.

Then, maybe numerics. One edition, two edition, three edition.

Sky is the limit. You go, Volkswagen! Let's make sure this generation of Polo stays for another ten years!

Interestingly, there is no "cricket" word written on any decal, so for all you know, VW may be planning to sell these "limited" editions in every "Cup" that India represents henceforth.

Being among the top losers YOY, gimmicks like these only exhibit their desperation to push sales (MOM sales, Polo -40%, Vento -25%).

Limited editions from limited numbers.

Nope; but Nissan is.

Well, going digital itself has become a mode of marketing these days! Case in point: the silly JCB memes going around.

The more important point in your post: what about the hashtag relates specifically to VW?! Very little, considering "Germany" doesn't exclusively translate to VW.

VW with its editions is giving serious competition to Maruti's sticker editions.
