VW opens 'Tools Library' in Pune

The Volkswagen Group has opened a 'Tools Library' near its manufacturing plant in Pune. The new facility will support more than 220 dealer partners of the VW, Skoda and Audi brands by loaning them tools and equipment whenever required.

Volkswagen Group dealerships within 300 km of the facility will receive tools and equipment within 6 hours. Those dealers located beyond 300 km can receive their shipment within 24-36 hours.

The Tools Library is part of VW Group's India 2.0 project. The company has invested Rs. 17 million in setting up this facility.

Volkswagen opens 'Tools Library' in Pune - Post moved to a new thread.

VW seems to be making the right moves in the background.
All of this will benefit the consumer eventually and I think its a great move. They are strengthening their back-end and preparing for launches in the next year. We could expect to not face the same gremlins which have plagued the VW Group in India. Although, knowing VW there might be new gremlins. :D

I have always felt VW has had great products, let down shoddy customer service.

I think this can be merged with the "Volkswagen : They way ahead in India" thread.

Very nice initiative by Volkswagen.

1. This means that the capital expenditure for setting up a workshop reduces given that there is a premium dealers pay for tools procurement.
2. It'd be interesting how the financial model works. Would this mean that the entire cost of tool rental is charged back to the customer?

Hopefully, unlike the past years, the VW group is now really serious with their India plan. I lived in Germany once upon a time for four years, and know they are extremely meticulous in their plans, and hopefully they are putting all of that into practice from now on in India. Just launching new models is not enough, one has to have a solid service infrastructure to back up the sales. I hope, in the future, they'd also look at the quantity and quality of service network across the country. Having said that, despite there being only one VW dealer in Kolkata (excluding separate Skoda, Audi, Porsche dealers), I am quite happy with my purchase experience of a GT TSI at the dealership (in Feb-Mar 2017) and so far also with their service.

I welcome the news. However, I never heard of anything of this kind ("Tools Library") with any other car brand. VW finds it necessary and essential to invest in such a facility :).
