Saw this camouflaged i20 test-mule a while back around Mathura Road in New Delhi.

Few sites claim the launch to be on October 15th. But, it also appears that few dealers have unofficialy started accepting bookings with a token amount of Rs. 25000.

If you're hunting for a new car in this segment, I would recommend waiting for the i20. It definitely looks promising and should possibly set a new benchmark in the segment.
With latest launches from Hyundai having a very positive highway behaviour, we can expect similar results with the updated i20 as well.

Autocar has put up a short video on what to expect from the i20

This does look promising! The same turbo petrol and dct as the venue will make this a really fun to drive hatch.

re: Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs

The ACI video mentions Hyundai could provide 17" wheels on the top trim.

17" wheels are simply ridiculous for a car like the i20. I hope Hyundai are not foolish enough to do such a stupid thing. 16" wheels with 195/55 R16 tyres (as on the current i20) is already stretching things.

The current i20, Venue and upcoming i20 are all 4m+ cars internationally.

For the current i20, Hyundai merely reduced the thickness of the bumpers to make it duck under the 4m mark. For the Venue, which is 4040 mm long internationally, reducing bumper thickness alone was not enough, and they had to reduce the wheelbase slightly as well for the Indian version, thereby making the rear of the Indian Venue quite cramped.

It remains to be seen if the new i20 for India will also have a slightly reduced wheelbase as compared to the international version.

Spoke to the sales manager in one of the dealers in Chennai, he confirmed that the new i20 will be available at the dealership yard next week. Official launch is round the corner, maybe by the 2nd week of October.

This is one car that I'm closely following, hope Hyundai brings all the engine + transmission options available.

This is indeed a pleasant news! But I am quite surprised that apart from the few snaps of the camouflaged car testing for ARAI, there isn’t any other news pertaining to engine+gearbox trims, variants spread, etc. And without all this, the launch expected in just 2 weeks?
Though I am really happy about this as I am waiting for this car too & kinda sitting on the fence between the Sonet & i20. Hope the news is true & we have the car launched atleast by mid-Oct; including the pricing details. Fingers crossed.

New Hyundai i20 Walkaround Videos

While the interiors are nice and different, the space doesn't seem to have improved. Baleno & Jazz are way better.

But Overall a nice car, and I think most Indians will like it and buy it for Features, Interiors, Exteriors while enthusiast will like Multiple Engine Options.

Damn, this hideous front grill , looks like unnecessary 3D treatment given and overdone tail light !
Rest of the car, proportion and rim design is simply fabulous !

Then IMO, there would be no reason to get the i20 over the similarly priced Venue or Sonet.

re: Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs

https://www.autocarindia.com/car-new...evealed-418757

As per this article, the i20 N Line, will be utilising a 1.0 litre turbo-petrol and 1.2 litre petrol engine, with the smaller producing either 100 or 120 ps and the 1.2 making a frail 84 ps. It is very unlikely that we will see the N line in our country, but I do hope that the 2020 i20 sold in India uses the 1.0 turbo engine from the Venue.

With the Altroz turbo rumoured to make around 108 ps, in the same segment having a i20 with a turbo petrol engine, it could very well make the 2 cars fun to drive. I hope we get some clarity on the launch of the 2 cars in the coming days.

re: Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs

Here's an exclusive scoop, team:

Our friendly neighborhood Autospy caught up with the all-new i20 testing on the streets.

Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs-img20201005wa0034.jpg

Guess what - the front glass had a paper stuck on it which said "7-speed DCT."

Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs-img20201005wa0031.jpg

More importantly, that same piece of paper had this written just below the above marking - "1.0 T-GDi".

Yes, an i20 turbo petrol mated to the 7-speed DCT is on the prowl.

Tell you what, in my opinion, it could very well be the N Line.

Hope they price it right. They have strong competition from the Sonet, Altroz and their own Venue. If they price it similar to the Altroz, then they have a winner.

The probability of launching the N-Line looks a bit remote IMHO, primarily there isn’t any strong competition for that variant per se. It would probably have been possible if the Tata Altroz JTP was in consideration. It would have definitely made a strong case for Hyundai to launch the N line. But in the current scenario there isn’t any proper ‘performance hatch’ in the segment from the competition; and I feel the 1.0 7DCT would suffice major of the enthusiasts requirement, especially now that the Polo GT TSI DSG is outta picture.
Let’s see what Hyundai has in store for us! Eagerly waiting for this car.

The starting price will definitely be lower then the SC SUVs, but for sure there is bound to be some price overlap. IMO the top end DCT variant should hit somewhere at 9.5L ex, provided they launch in the Asta (O) trim unlike skimmed variants in the Venue.

Looks a tad less wider and shorter than the International model. Is there a chance Hyundai could be adding new bodypanels to existing i20 chassis to cut costs?
