| ![]() Thanks. Here is another one. This new gen seems a proper upgrade over the current one (shame that is built on the santro platform for us..would have expected a premium hatch to concentrate on safety too in this day and age). | ![]() Where did this news come that the next generation i20 will be built on the Santro Platform? Especially considering the car isn't even on roads yet. Last edited by BZ25 : 25th April 2020 at 15:58. |

| ![]() Well, we know Hyundai is using the K1 platform in India for sub 4 meter cars. I don't see any reason for the Venue to be based on the K1 platform but the i20 to be based on the more expensive K2 platform. Do you? |

| ![]() This is a well known piece of information that has been in public domain for many months now. The Venue and upcoming new i20 both are on the Santro’s platform. Venue and i20 will also share powertrains. This is pretty much a Maruti Heartech/1.2 K series kind of scenario, WagonR to Baleno, where all cars are mechanically identical/very similar and differences are only cosmetic and positioning purpose |

| ![]() It seems like the latest trend is the screens getting wider and wider. But doesn't a 10inch diagonal narrow screen have more area than a 10inch diagonal wide screen? Also, with something like navigation, don't we need more vertical space on the screen than horizontal? |

| ![]() Didn't Venue do well in crash tests? If so then they can use the same strengthened Santro platform for new gen i20 to instill some confidence in buyers. |

India spec Hyundai Venue has not been tested by GNCAP. The car that did well was a Venue at the A-NCAP. The car must have been made with different specifications. But then - ANCAP is also far more stringent than GNCAP. So comparison is impossible on both dimensions. Best not to speculate. The Indian Venue may be absolutely fine in a GNCAP or may perform poorly. Unless the scores out, we can't really know. (The Indian Santro scored disappointing 2 stars in GNCAP.)

| ![]() How does it matter whether the new i20 gets the Santro platform or continues with the Elite i20 platform? Current i20 anyway got 3 stars in GNCAP test (which is abysmal considering that cheaper Tiago got 4). This may get the same as it has a passenger airbag which the Santro doesn't. Hyundai knows very well what the masses will want in their next car: bling and features and is excelling at this job. I thought people were becoming safety concious but no I was wrong ![]() fold. I would consider a safety rating for an Indian car only if it is tested by GNCAP or it is a CBU tested by Euro NCAP. Last edited by PetrolheadRup : 25th April 2020 at 21:05. | |

I actually didn't mean a vertical orientation screen. I meant one that had a larger aspect ratio. For instance, the one in the next gen i20 has something like a 20:9 aspect ratio whereas the one in the tiago is more around 16:9. What I can see is that as the aspect ratio gets bigger for a given diagonal size (either in the landscape or portrait mode), the screen actually is smaller overall, considering the height and width.

People will keep fiddling with the steering wheel controls to see their favourite virtual cockpit data, meanwhile a dog or a cyclist will turn up 100m ahead out of nowhere. If you want safety, then the virtual cockpit must use radar/IR to scan ahead and signal threats.

| ![]() I think Tata beat Hyundai in coming out with an edgy design with Altroz. Kinda took away the freshness of it. Looks overdone to my eyes. But as always, will be finished damn neat and loaded like the new Creta is. No variant with a sunroof? Even i10 got one So this should have it for twice the pricing. | ![]() I would go out on a limb here but say, the 3rd generation i20 by far would be the best looking hatchback in the country. I for one have fallen for it hard and would definitely like one in my garage moreover with that 1.5L Diesel producing 100 HP and the Venue's 1.0 Turbo, if this comes in the 120 HP guise, this will take the market by storm and would find a lot of takers. The 7 Speed DCT will be an icing on the cake making it all the more tempting. Last edited by YashD : 5th May 2020 at 18:25. |
