re: Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs

Looks pretty interesting! The design falls in line with the new design language seen on the 2021 Elantra and 2020 Sonata.

It reminded me of the Jazz, even jazz looks less busy compared to this. The latest designs of Hyundai has that Japanese quirkiness. My personal favorite is pre-facelift i20 based on Fluidic Sculpture 2.0, on sale from 2014 to 2018 which had those cute looking tail lamps.

Rear design is so similar to the Altroz. Reminds me of the coincidence between the City and the Ciaz.

Are there no diesel variants on offer?

Not sure if anyone noticed the OVRM casing design - pretty nice and in sync with the angular design of the rest of the car!

The 1.5l diesel from the Seltos will be there, albeit in a lower tune i.e 100 bhp and 240 NM as a FGT will be used rather than a VGT.

Looks too busy to me all around especially its rear end. Somehow I am not a fan of Hyundai's recent design language, I personally feel the current i20 looks better than the facelift.

re: Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs

I really like the design at the front, a very modern looking car but the rear is just too cluttered with so many design elements (quirky tail lamps, diffuser, glossy black finish). I would still prefer the pre facelift Elite i20's clean design over this.

I was also about to post regarding the same . It reminds me of the ORVMs used in BMW's M cars to reduce drag (because of the boomerang shape).

Another interesting thing I noticed is that the border of the fuel lid coincides with that of the tail lamp at the side. Looks really cool.

Whether one likes Hyundai's recent designs or not they surely are interesting and often bring something new to the table

I'm not a fan of the taillamps that give a below the waistline look. The new Creta also has this. Its looks a bit wierd(a lot in the Creta) and reminds of people who used to wear low waist jeans revealing their "branded" underwear lining.

Love the way the front looks, rear looks a little too busy but overall i really like it, would get one in black with smoked tail lights and dark tints to hide the busy design.

I hope Hyundai gives it the 1.4 GDI mated to a manual and sort out the dynamics to make it handle at least a little like the old Swift or first gen Figo, this would make it the best hatch in the market.

I don't know what has happened to Hyundai design philosophy. Fiddled with Aura, now with i20. The back doesn't suit and plays a spoilsport as in Aura, in otherwise a great car.
I hope it looks better in real life.

One of the rare hatchback designs with no thick C-pillar - rear quarter-glass is unusually big! Hope it should be airy at the back despite the rising windowline.

Wouldn't buy one though! Looks too busy for my tastes - but the 1.0 Turbo would have been interesting.

I for sure like the current version of i20 i.e. Elite i20. This 3rd generation i20 looks as if it was designed keeping a sedan/fastback version in mind.

Looking at the gap between i20 Elite and new Verna, Hyundai can fit in a fastback version.

i20 Elite price range (Pune) -- ₹ 559,693 - ₹ 941,003
New Verna price range (Pune) -- ₹ 930,585 - ₹ 1,509,900

I own the current generation Elite i20 and its looks were one very important factor in me choosing it over the competition. Having said that I am not quite sold on the looks of the next-gen i20. Does not give off the "premium" hatchback aura IMHO.

The only reason I would buy this car is because I cannot see it once I am inside. The interiors would undoubtedly be segment leading considering it is a Hyundai.
When it comes to exteriors, I never thought that a day would come when Tata would outclass Hyundai. But here we are!

Hyundai has always given us great looking cars over last two decades, and I hope they are out of this rough patch soon.

Hyundai India’s Director – Sales, Marketing and Service, Tarun Garg, said, There is no change in the launch schedule for the new i20. Due to the current market scenario and talks of extending the lockdown, Hyundai is targeting a festive season launch for now, a period of strong demand.
