Hyundai i20 N Spied,

Quote:
Spy photos show some details of their own, such as the new rear bumper, which features a special "cut" to accommodate a second escape that is also seen as somewhat trimmed", the wheel steps are somewhat more muscular and the tyres , with larger alloy wheels are positioned flush with the body. In addition, they show larger brake calipers and painted in red

re: Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs

Hyundai i20N spied,

Quote:
The i20 N’s engine changes and chassis modifications will mirror that of the i30 N, so expect significantly more firepower than the supermini’s existing engine range and suitable lowering and stiffening of the car’s suspension, alongside performance brakes and more direct ratio steering.
Quote:
The most likely engine candidate to boost performance to the desired level will be the brand’s widely turbocharged 1.6-litre ’T-GDI’ motor. It offers 174bhp in the Tucson SUV, but a figure of at least 200bhp will be necessary if Hyundai wants to successfully mix with the class big hitters like the Fiesta ST and VW Polo GTI.

re: Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs

The new generation Fiesta ST looks like a minivan on steroids, they have managed to wreck the stance completely and it no longer looks the part. The i20 looks much better, and with some more sporty elements could really 'look' hot.

But isn't it too late for a N variant now? The current model is already on its last legs and will have to be replaced with an all new model in about a year

re: Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs

Rumour: 3rd-gen Hyundai i20 launch in 2020. To get DCT gearbox

According to a media report, the third-generation Hyundai i20 is likely to be launched in 2020 and it could be offered with a dual-clutch transmission option.

Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs-i20.jpg

The new i20 has already been spotted testing in India. It is likely to get a new hexagonal grille and wraparound projector headlamps. It could come with a redesigned rear end, dual-tone alloy wheels and a shark fin antenna. It is likely to get redesigned interiors as well with a touchscreen infotainment system along with other features.

The next-generation i20 could be offered with a choice of 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engine options. Reports suggest that the i20 might also get the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit that powers the Venue compact SUV. In addition to a manual transmission, a dual-clutch automatic is also likely to be offered.

re: Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs

If the next gen i20 is indeed offered with the 1.0L turbo engine and the DCT combo as in the Venue, that will definitely differentiate it from the rivals. Will be a welcome offering over the jerky AMTs and the slow CVTs in the segment. Any idea whether it will be offered in the same state of tune as the Venue? In the Venue this engine doesn't feel that good for city commuting due to the heavy turbo lag.

re: Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs

Looks like Hyundai is ditching the torque converters in all its models and going to bet on DCTs. I would say it is a daring move. Torque converters are known to be very reliable with very few moving parts compared to DCTs. And from the DCT heating issues found in the venue ownership reviews, it looks like Hyundai still has not figured out the DCT completely.

But this also means Hyundai will commit fully to DCT. So the early adopters can breath a sigh a relief. Hyundai is in it for the long term and will stabilize the technology.

On another note, Altroz, if it comes with an AMT will be outdated on launch itself. Baleno already has a seven speed CVT. i20 will move from 4 speed TC to DCT. There is some fierce competition happening in this segment.

re: Third-gen Hyundai i20 spotted testing in Chennai. Edit: Launched at 6.79 lakhs

Since we all now know Hyundai has a 1.0L GDI - DCT combo powertrain, it is possible new i20 may come with the same. However it can directly compete with the Baleno RS & Polo TSI.

Alongside current 1.2L motor, there is possibility Hyundai can introduce 1.0L GDI-DCT powertrain under its N Performance badge / brand.

Hyundai has confirmed that the all-new third-generation i20, set to be launched next year, will be offered with the option of a dual-clutch transmission (DCT) in India. The current-gen i20 does come with a DCT-gearbox internationally.

I very much doubt whether this is Chennai, if you go by the wheel size are they 17" or 18", ride would be so hard and bumpy given the road conditions here that you dental fillings may drop off.

Is this really the I20? For one, the tail lights do not match the pics posted earlier by @Gannu_1, also this one has roof rails. Could this be the sub 4m SUV from Kia. Besides, I20 sees strong export numbers. Now that even Kia is using Chennai port for shipping, does it not make sense to retain the I20 production in Chennai!

Post from Gannu seems to be a lower/mid variant which explains no roof rails and a normal antenna. This one should be the top variant, hence the sharkfin, roof rails and fancy tail lights too.

I'm expecting this facelift to look good as Hyundai's design with i20 was spot on so far, although their latest design strategy is a little off putting.

Next-gen Hyundai i20 to get digital instrument cluster.
Quote:
The third generation of the car that practically kick-started the premium hatchback segment in India – the Hyundai i20 – is set to arrive next year. In order to one-up its competition in our market, which includes the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Honda Jazz, the upcoming next-gen i20 will come with a segment-first digital instrument cluster.

This new unit is expected to be similar to the one on the next-gen Hyundai Creta (ix25) that is also India bound, unlike the 5.3-inch part-digital instrument unit seen on the recently launched Grand i10 Nios. Whether this feature will be reserved for the top-spec Asta variant or available throughout the all-new i20’s variant line-up is still unknown.

Why! Although no surprise. Everyone is using this opportunity to save cost & also say this is "premium"! RIP purists...

By the way, whats going on with that grille! There is hardly any plastic in it in the form of the wide "X" pattern. Someone needs to urgently tell these designers that the grille is supposed to let air in but block objects from impacting the radiator/intercooler/condenser! This grille isn't going to offer any protection at all from incoming objects. Especially stones falling from laden dumpers. The cost cutting in plastic parts is really getting painful where it hurts most!
