Re: The most timeless car designs ever...

Lovely Thread! These are my two additions :

1 - Fiat Punto - Maserati nose and subtle curves gives a timeless feel every time one look at

2 - Chevy Cruze - It is amalgam of "in the face look" from a classy nostalgic brand of yesteryear, then add it the lovely coupe like roof lines

Re: The most timeless car designs ever...

My vote goes to the Gypsy. The soft top version is pure, clean, beautiful even more than 30 years after it was launched in India.

Re: The most timeless car designs ever...

The boxy Jeep Cherokee XJ is one of my all time favorite and could be seen everywhere in college towns and country side and suburbs across USA long after it was discontinued. It also enjoys a cult status among Jeep enthusiasts even though it does not have the sheer numbers of the wrangler on its side. Towards the end of its life, it shared the same 4 lit inline six cylinder bullet proof engine with the Wrangler TJ. I almost got one on my hands but ended up with the wrangler and eventually sold it with about 300k miles on it when I came back home.

The Jeep Cherokee gets my vote too. I owned one whilst we lived in Kansas City. 4.0l, 6 cylinder completely indestructible. Our kids used to love to drive it! Did quite a few family road trips in it. All the way into the Rockies and beyond.

Even my wife, who has nothing with cars, liked it for her shopping runs to the supermarket and garden centre. Only car I could just stick my bicycle in upright without having to take a wheel off.

Quite a few of these met an untimely end in the cash for clunkers program. They were also very popular with putting all kinds of ridiculous lifts on them. Not my kind of thing, like it stock.

It is a pretty good off roader too. All very basic, very functional. The boxy design is pretty unique and was probably done by the CEO's kid on a Monday morning on an etch-a-sketch. It does make for a very classic, timeless and easily recognizable design.

For all intents and purposes this is probably the closest US variant of the Range Rover. Although aimed at a much broader audience, as most US cars.

These cars still have a small, but loyal group of enthousiast in the USA, as well as outside. There are several companies here in the Netherlands (!!!), that specialize in Jeep Cherokees only. None will have done less than 100-150.000 km. Many will be hitting 250-300.000. Such mileage really is not a problem.

Very easy to work on, very simple technology. (E.g. still leaf springs at the rear)
I would love to own another one!

According to my US car registration papers it was a classified as a truck!

Re: The most timeless car designs ever...

For me, the most timeless design has to be the Mahindra Thar 2015 even though it was an evolved form of the MM540 which again itself was derived from Willyx of the World War II era. Absolutely clean design and classic..

4. Tata Tiago

Tiago is the desi Polo. The more I look at it, the more I admire its simplistic design.

Re: The most timeless car designs ever...

While I was reading this thread, a friend sent this picture from South Korea on our WhatsApp group. And instantly I thought, "Wow, What a timeless beauty!". I have seen these a lot in the US and every single time this still takes my breath away!

Now this is what I would call true timeless design that deserves to be on this thread!

Which models could you show - with pride - to your grand children? Here's my list:
Humbled. I was the product or program head for the respective cars for a few of the cars in your list. Heart sings with joy to see your original list. Usually would not mention it in this forum but your list forces me to do this little jig!

A future classic.
Exactly my feelings. I have the very same colour.

Plan to get it converted to an EV when the time is right or put in a 4 cylinder superbike engine after taking out the rear seats. Imagine the look on the faces of German car owners when she takes their pants off!

Re: The most timeless car designs ever...

This page is turning out to be a perfect example of looks are subjective, from individual to individual. @GTO started off with real timeless car design until many started pointing out every Tom, Dick and Harry is a timeless design. Wonder, should I start claiming my Ford Figo is also timeless design.
Thanks anyway for the thread as it was quite a treat to the eyes.

Re: The most timeless car designs ever...

Let me throw another Googly:

What about the BMW 2002 Turbo. Another nearly timeless classic. I was in UK that time, and I remember one Iranian student graduating to it from a lowly Corolla. That time Shah was there and they were very well funded. I wonder what was the insurance.

Not a "most" time-less design, but this one had some presence:
