Are you sure? Tata's have a fairly well established design centre in-house. Am not sure if they would like to spend on an overseas design agency for a vehicle which does not warrant that sort of investment.

I think this vehicle (too) is ugly. 12 years after they launched the first version, which has remained virtually unchanged, the world has moved to higher aesthetic expectations at nearly the same price. If they are going to re-invest in a brand new set of body parts, they should have protected their investment with a really striking design.

There were other things they could have changed in the original style, even while keeping it still boxy, and got a much more proportionate and smart vehicle.

I would reserve any more comments till I see the real thing. Right now, I think it is ugly. I hope I'm proved wrong.

Mods is reject this because it might call for a new thread. But does anyone have any idea about the ingenio? Looks? Specs? features?

Yes, I'm sure. A German company is involved in the styling of the new Sumo. I had posted the design agency's details in one of my earlier posts.

True, Tata have the best auto R&D facility in India in the form of their ERC. However, the fact is that after its initial runaway success, Sumo has been facing declining sales what with competitors having introduced superior and more contemporary products. By upgrading both engine and styling in the new Sumo, Tata wants to arrest and reverse this trend. That's the logic behind engaging a specialist European auto design house.

Yes,it is a german company called IAV GmbH

Tata Motors has roped in German engineering company, IAV GmbH (Ingenieurgesellschaft Auto und Verkehr), to design and develop its new multi-utility vehicle (MUV) platform. The new platform may replace Tata Motors' warhorse Sumo which has served the company for over 12 years

april autocar india reports sale of 'tata's old workhorse sumo edged mahindra scorpio's sales and finds its position in top 10 list for feb 2k7.(abt 3100+ units sold)

How did this take place, even if there is no large discounts and the confirmed new sumo's arrival?

What do you expect from the Mahindra now...? They have already spoilt the looks of the Bolero...oops...I think you mean Mahindra should discontinue the Bolero!

@nikeGoldWing : Since the Sumo is aimed as a people mover, I dont really suppose they need to concentrate all that much on providing comforts. If the competition does, so will they. All a matter of who will take the first step.

my point exactly!! they should either dump it or further strip it down to till land and start afresh with a new model.

More and more IT companies and call centers are preferring TATA Sumo, since the old workhorse (Qualis) is no longer in production so it is being replaced. TATA Sumo is cheaper than Tavera, Innova hence its being preferred.
Just my 2 cents.

Is the call centres using spacio/tourin?
So, sumo includes the spacio/tourin, and victa as well i suppose.

Also, innova which sold in 5ks is out of the ACI top sales list.
