What an anti-climax! This is not the new Sumo.
They've just plonked the Spacio engine in Victa after tinkering with its NVH a bit.

Details in quote, but this is not that new Sumo which is being talked about here.

Quote:
The new range, fitted with a new 3-litre Turbocharged DI engine, delivers improved fuel economy, higher power and torque.

The new engine develops maximum power and torque of 70 PS (at 3000 rpm) and 223 Nm (at 2200 rpm) respectively. This results in considerable improvement in overall performance and driveability.

Fuel efficiency has significantly improved. The Sumo Victa Turbo DI delivers a best in class 15 kmpl (under test conditions), further enhancing the core appeal of the vehicle. It is also characterised by lower Noise Vibration and Harshness (NVH).

The Sumo Victa IDI range's much appreciated attributes -- of 4.9 mts turning circle radius, equivalent to those of small cars, spare wheel located under the body and attractive styling including clear lens head lamps and fascia -- have been carried forward in the DI range.

The range comprises 4 trim levels – Cx, Lx, Ex and Gx -- in both BSII and BSIII emission compliance levels. It offers a wide range of seating configuration -- 7,8,9, and 10 seats -- to choose from, along with the comfort and convenience features of the Victa IDI range. HVAC is standard equipment on Lx, Ex and Gx variants. The top end variant, Gx, is also equipped with power steering, power windows, central locking, keyless entry, CD/MP3 music system and internally adjustable side view mirrors.

The BSII range of Sumo Victa DI has been priced between Rs. 4.84 lakhs and Rs. 5.89 lakhs, (ex-showroom, Karnal), while the BSIII range is priced between Rs.4.95 lakhs and Rs. 6 lakhs (ex showroom, Delhi).

This is absolutely not the new sumo... this is in production since august seems so its launches now.. i think they consider nearly 45 days into production before launching it. It was the same with safari also wherein they had started production in august but launched in october.

Phoenix has got front shape same as Xenon & in rear tail lamp there are numerous lights not as simple as sumo. it substantially looks more macho than sumo. By considering front end of xenon all of you may be able to feel its looks. The production is expected to start this month hence expect a december launch considering there 45 to 50 days inventory built-up. Its difficult but will surely tru for some snaps.

Maybe this is a move by Tata to let the TC IDI motor die a natural death. So when the new sumo is finally released, they can charge a premium on it. So the new lineup will be Spacio DI/Turbo, Victa TurboDI, New Sumo.

Or Victa with Turbo Di may Kill Spacio, so another option maybe Victa Turbo DI, New Sumo. In any case The new Sumo should have the 3.0 DICOR.

I don't have heard any rumour, nor do I have any insider Info, This just looks to me the most logical thing to do.

It will have a 2.2 litre CRDi diesel engine, the same engine used on the Tata Safari. They have the option to choose either the 2.2-litre or 3.0-litre CRDi engine but i guess they will stick to the 2.2 as it will be the common powertrain platform between the Sumo and Safari which will help keep the price down.
Its going to be called SUMO PHOENIX!

Tata spacio, with the agricultural 3L engine, is given a turbo charge(may 2007). No changes except the stepney going under.

"New Bolero" launched.

Tata spacio now wears victa's coat. Thats all.

But this is good news-since sumo victa is degraded, we can expect the new sumo very soon..

They have just launched the 2.2 l safari. So its some model range cleanup happenning. This should be seen as a precursor to seeing phoenix soon. But since the Safari's just launched, expecting a phoenix launch so soon, is expecting too much.

Your humble opinion is respected, but I also have a humble opinion:
Please remember that it is NEVER for the LOOKS ALONE that anyone buys a car. There's many years of relationship that must make the whole deal worthwhile. And few have consistently disappointed like TATA. I love their vehicles, BUT...
It is not even fair to compare apples (Innova) to oranges (Scorpio, Safari, Sumo). When it comes to technical superiority, our 'home grown' vehicles cannot hold a candle in the wind to the likes of Toyota!

Re: New Tata Sumo!!!

Spotted 2 test mules of Sumo today on the NH45. Not sure of what TATA has up it's sleeve.

It had a rear wiper and some masking on the roof above the C-pillar BTW.

Re: New Tata Sumo!!!

Still sports the place to mount the spare wheel on the back so that remains as is it seems, the Tail Lights seems newer - blackened?.

Is that a fixed glass window at the roof tops edges for the last row? - like in a earlier Trax? I guess?

Somehow does not seem to be a significant improvement and seems to be targetting a people mover slot lower than the Sumo Gold.
