re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

From the scoop pics it looks like Maruti is going for the same stupid dashboard design as the new WagonR.

Knuckle freezer glorified tablet holder design.

Same treatment to the Celerio, from what it appears.

Same here.
Ofcourse for most of the customers, that is people who buy them as their primary car it would be good to have a bigger car.
But for people who would like to have a small city runabout, new cars do get fat with each generations.

But then, we really can't blame Maruti.
They did give us a cheap narrow bodied city car before ballooning up the WagonR and Celerio.

Spresso.

"SAFER"
Really?
Or safe in the same way as their website presents Heartect as a safe platform with S-Presso mentioned right below it?

Looks like Celerio replacement is ready. April saw only 300 odd dispatches of Celerio. Due to COVID the launch might have been postponed but I strongly believe production of existing model has been stopped.

True. As per RUSHLANE, dealerships have been advised to "convert customers/existing bookings to other models".

Somehow the whole design looks like a mini Baleno. The headlamps look pathetic, They appear to be very bland and of primitive design.

re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

Why this design seems to have a hint of Alto in it?
As far as remember, Celerio was earlier positioned above old Wagon R and this no-way looks premium to sit above new Wagon R.
So have they tried to tone it down a bit by giving it Alto-ish look?
Or it could be just me who feel that.

re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

This car looks so generic and lacks character that the alloy wheels seem to be the best looking part of this car. Very neutral and inoffensive design.

Problem is that I like such cars they are boring from the start and remain so unlike Hyundai, Lexus, Kia designs which look "wow" at the beginning but later I just don't want to see them again and again.

A good option as an S-presso alternative.

A 1.2L would make this the pocket rocket that the Alto-K10 was called.

re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

It gives me a feeling that the Alto and S Presso (their micro SUV ) had an illicit child and the new Celerio design was born! Front and the rear is heavily inspired by the Alto's layout lines while the side profile has a shade of the S Presso.

Again, I seriously doubt if Maruti will offer alloy wheels in this segment. It would either be wheel caps or those stupid steel wheels with "alloy like" design like how Tata played with its customers.

Nonetheless, if priced well, this "thing" will sell like any other Maruti. Also, it might just click to those who want their first car but is reluctant to by an Alto since it looks too small.

Drive Safe,
R-Six

re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

Who is the designer at Suzuki who comes up with such non inspiring, super bland designs?
They should learn from Renault where economy doesn't means sad design.
Rear wiper is there but flip type handles in 2021? Seriously Suzuki !!

Suzuki at least in India is on a trend of:

Maximize Economy - thin sheet metal, extreme cost cutting, mix and match of components from common parts bin

Increased Price with lesser standard kit

Jazz up the same model and sell through Nexa at even higher price and no discounts

This is so true. Every new gen Maruti looks like a car from 2010 to 2016. Unispiring design, cost cutting can be seen on front and rear bumper, it is all one piece. No fancy design elements, simple headlights. Feels like just another car. However our people will still buy it in huge volumes.

re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

This looks a lot more proportionate than the present Celerio. The present one looks kind of stuck between wanting to be a tallboy like WagonR or be a proper 2 box hatch like the Swift, which is roughly its placement in the range.

But it is the detailing that looks so plain jane. I don't really mind the styling, but this looks straight out of the late 2000s. The lights for some reasons reminds me of old Fiesta/Focus hatchbacks.

It will share the WagonR's powertrains and be positioned as the alternative to WagonR, sadly the same useless dashboard too would be shared guessing from the scoop pics.
