re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

Design and feel always seems to be the second last thing on Maruti Suzuki's agenda when it comes to building cars, the last is safety of course.

I mean what in the name of almighty is this car? Look at Kwid, seriously, Kwid has it's own fare share of issues but at least it looks decent.

Like Dewey said in Malcolm in the Middle,

I expect nothing and I'm still disappointed.

re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

Looks like the car took inspiration from Baleno, shape does remind me of Baleno and what is funny here is the front grill looks like that of old Baleno(anyone??)
Overall design looks more like from late 90s than 2021.
Maruti does play it safe and as long as the customer is walking in search of a city car that can return amazing FE they know this will sell.

This is how a cross between a Baleno and an Alto looks like; two uninspiring designs giving birth to an exceedingly ugly duckling.

re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

The design looks less inspiring compared to most Maruti Suzuki stable models. To my eyes, it's a cross between 1st gen Figo and the current Alto. It's neither sharp looking like WagonR nor well rounded like a Baleno- both of which have been highly successful. The stability of Celerio owing to lesser height was a plus point over WagonR.

Looking at these pictures, I have a feeling that it may not be launch ready and the final version could be better. When Baleno was finally launched, it proved to be better than the initial pictures on the internet. Hope it's the same here.

re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

2022 launch? Wasn't this supposed to launch anytime soon? So many expected launch dates rumored for this car. First it was Diwali 2020, then early 2021, then May 2021 and now 2022. I was waiting for it since last year as needed a small auto hatch but finally got hold of Wagon R. Am glad I made that decision.

I agree with you, the design isnt a looker. Reminds me of the suzuki Kei (1998-2009).

Attaching a picture for refrence. The one mentioned here is a 2006 facelift version.

I think the styling studio at Suzuki is going from bad to worse every passing day.
Starting with the new DZire, then the S-Presso and now this, Suzuki seems to be specialising; in scaling new heights, in designing aesthetically challenged products.

Compared to this indeterminate, anonymous blob, the original first generation Zen, designed by the same company, seems to be light years ahead!

re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

Maruti knows what works and doesn't want to stray too far from their current designs. Hyundai new designs are more polarizing while Maruti is more incremental where they stick to whats working for them.

For a first time budget car buyer, I think these plain Jane designs are what the people appreciate. There must have been a lot of research gone into this.

re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

In the side profile - the front 1/3 of the car actually gives a bit of Figo/Aspire vibe by how the high set grille and swept headlamps are wrapping around. In the frontal view - I don't know what it is - but it is quickly reminding me of the good ol' Hyundai GETZ. Perhaps just me who feels that way of course.

As usual for this segment - a neutral design that may not impress all but won't really offend anybody at all. And will get the job done - that of having a good practical car for the right purpose. This said - a clear downgrade from pull type handles to flaps of the Alto - is a big downer. We've already seen this on the mules of course, so not exactly a surprise - but I had hopes that the final version may come with pull-handles. Dashed now.

Actually this may be true! The so called Agya hatchback design which Toyota has filed for patent in India may actually be the next Gen Celerio! Instead of simply rebadging, Toyota may change the front bumpers and lights etc and then push it as an all new model, while Suzuki will sell it as the Celerio. I think this is the way forward for Toyota, the current re-badging may be a temporary exercise to test market response. Now that they have some decent feedback, they will make some effort on changing some parts like the bumpers and lights, so that the resemblance is not so obvious.

I think that even if a car looks neutral, it can be made to look hot just by using perfect and stunning colors. The Alto K10 looked great in Orange and Red. Omni, Wagon R Stingray in blue, Tiago in Yellow and Blue.

The commonly seen silver, white, golden make already a neutral design look more boring.

The above car can look awesome in Nexa Blue, Lucent Orange, Bright Yellow, Dark Maroonish red with black alloy wheels.

Actually the side profile, especially the window line and overall shape of the Agya looks very different to the Maruti's design seen here. So, not entirely sure!

re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

This is the most boring looking car I have seen in Decades.
Even Generic cars in games look better and has more styling than this. What is the designer's inspiration embehind this design : JELL-O?

I have a feeling that Maruti is aiming this at the Taxi market and hence is going for more practicality+space and spent minimum budget on styling.

Even the side profile looks awkward.

The rear wiper in the video and the other pics looks very odd. It looks more like an after thought than a neat integration.
