Good pick My eyes lit up noticing the red compass with that black decal on its hood.

I also noticed a couple more silver/grey compass, could they be testing 4x4 Diesel MT combination. For some reason Jeep decided to restrict 4x4 to just diesel AT’s, that’s quite a bummer for some one looking at MT & 4x4 option! There should be a market for that surely, what could be driving such illogical decisions??

The Jeep Grand Commander ( for China) has nothing to do with the Jeep Commander released for Emerging Markets.

Meanwhile Jeep completes 3rd reveal this year/4th 7-seater. It’s an extended/+refined version of Compass.

I spotted one Jeep Meridian test mule on the NICE road(Bangalore) , yesterday. It was along with a MH registered Compass. I couldn't click a picture as it was raining heavily.

I think Jeep Commander will be competiting with the likes of Fortuner or Endeavour, I am expecting a premium or 3 lakhs to 4 lakhs per variant at a minimum compared to Jeep Compass. Its going to rain SUV's soon.

Looks like they have squeezed the life out of it. Wondering whether the torque curve is anywhere close to being flat - will be interesting to see so much bulk being pulled by the 1.3T. There is only so much that can be tricked with cleverly chosen gear ratios..
Agree, this is a bit of a record on HP per litre of displacement. This engine makes 142 HP per litre of displacement! Compare that to some of most advanced and power dense engines we have today in the Indian market, such as the VW 1.0 TSi, which makes 118 bhp per litre in the Kushaq, and the Duster Turbo, which makes exactly the same bhp per litre. Heck, even the BMW 2.0 Turbopetrol in the 330i and 530i makes only about 126 HP per litre.

However, we have consistently seen how small engines, when tasked to haul heavy cars, fare very poorly on FE. The Kushaq 1.0 TSi has lower fuel efficiency than the same car with an 1.5 TSI!
We have seen this in Jeep's own Compass 1.4 Turbopetrol which returns abysmal FE. I expect the Commander petrol, where the 1.3 L engine has to haul 1700+ Kilograms, will yield FE in the range of 4-5 KM per litre in Indian urban conditions. Imagine the 60 litre tank will giving all of 240 KM range on full tank and making you wallet lighter by Rs.6500!

Hey - firstly great scoop on the Commander one post above yours.

Secondly, Oh no!!! I am dreading the launch of the Trailhawk Compass.

For only one selfish reason.

I was hoping the compass has maxxed out its pricing spectrum with the S. If they launch another variant even higher than S (S itself is ~34.xx L on road in Mumbai) I dread to think where it will keep pushing the Meridian launch pricing. Already. I am expecting this to be at an eye watering 42/43L on road for the top of line Overland in whatever spec or form they bring that here. Unless they let some variant pricings between Trailhawk Compass and Meridian overlap.

Any thoughts from you on this @Bunny? Thanks

Caught these on the way to Leh, the 7 seater jeep compass, aka Commander aka Meridian.
I think they have used the current compass tail lights so that we dont recognise the rear.
There were three of these with two Jeep Compass around.
These alloys are unlike the previous leaks, look pretty good.
I think the one launched in Brazil has similar alloys.

Source: Abhinav Bhatt's Leh-Ladakh trip vlog!

Found yet another video about the Meridian or the Compass Long-wheelbase version or the hybrid child of Compass and Cherokee. Not much info in the video, but you find a glance of XUV500(comparable to XUV700) and Meridian side-by-side.

The vehicle doesn't appear that tall, and look more of a jacked-up station wagon and less of a proper Fortuner-competitor (that's what the vehicle is pitted against, right ?)

SR

If you look at the dimensions of Commander, the closest car to it is the Kodiaq, though if the Compass interior packaging is anything to go by, Commander's seating will be more like Tiguan Allspace- 3rd row strictly for kids due to both headroom and kneeroom

Ladder on frame SUVs are anyways inherently taller and bigger.

re: India-bound Jeep 7-seater SUV, named Meridian

Here is a review of Jeep Grand Cherokee L which is recently launched in North American markets. Not fully relevant to the thread as its a completely different category but we can expect some of the tech and features to trickle down in Meridian.

side-note: These are the best youtube car reviewers IMO. No gimmicks and straight forward reviews where they don't talk only about looks and features but also what's underneath.

I spotted this Jeep Meredian testing on NICE Road Bangalore yesterday. I tried to take more angles, however I couldn't keep up with his speeds. Here's whatever I could get:
