re: India-bound Jeep 7-seater SUV, named Meridian

Jeep Compass 7 seater/ Commander spied again at Sangamwadi road signal while traveling to office today morning. Pardon me for the shots since I managed to capture while sitting on bike.

Interesting to see Bridgestone Dueler HT tires on the Commander instead of the Turanza T001 that they offer in the Compass. The Dueler is certianly a better fit for an SUV

Are they also changing the wheel size of the Commander, because the Dueler is not available in the Compass tire sizes (both 17 and 18 inches)

Jeep meridian test mule spotted at the ghats in Kodaikanal.
Must say it seemed to have similar proportions when compared with my Crysta parked by the side.

In the pictures posted by Volkman above though, it seems smaller than the Crysta. Maybe it is the angle?

I would say a tad smaller. The height is smaller but the length and even the width is (if not more) comparable to that of the Crysta.

re: India-bound Jeep 7-seater SUV, named Meridian

Nice to see all the Camo pics. Can’t wait for the launch now - hopefully they’ll launch this by Q2 of 2022 calendar. I hope they don’t remove the paddle shifters (clearly visible in the Brazil spec). The only downer is that I’ve heard the top of line diesel could well go toe to toe with the Fortuner on pricing. Which is really going to sting because I really don’t think this car warrants a top of line price of more than 45 - 46L even being generous.

Price might just be the most bitter pill one needs to swallow for those keen on this.

Off topic:

As good as the Meridien may be, it won’t be able to replace the luxury of your current GT, although add much more on the practicality front.

If I were you, I’d be looking to add a ‘tough’ vehicle to compliment the German OR maybe a get a like for like replacement for German (3GL? 5?) but also add a ‘tough’ vehicle as go anywhere vehicle. Whatsay?

I agree. That is indeed the idea. I plan to add the Meridian (/ Tucson) to the 3GT and let them overlap for 2.5 to 3 years. Once I’m ready to sell the GT (perhaps at 9 - 11 year mark - i.e. 2024 - 2026), I’ll take a call if I’m still keen on replacing with a similar luxury car or perhaps move totally to the other direction and get a sub 30L replacement - perhaps a nice sedan like Octavia or alternately an EV which operates in the ZS EV segment.

At that point, the Meridian may actually become the flagship of my garage. Can’t predict what the replacement options will be that far ahead. I’ll also be in nodding distance of 50 yrs then and financial priorities may also dictate which way I go, regardless of what the heart wants. I expect significant outflow towards replacing my Tiger also sometime around 2024 / 25 so all this will also add up.

Thanks. On the width point, atleast on the Compass, there is significant difference when it comes to interior width and space available vs external width, which reduces cabin space available. Hope they package it better in the Meridian

My understanding is that while this is based on the Compass platform it is not a mere elongation but a more substantial redesign - and the cabin is proportionately wider. How it compares to the Kodiaq / Fortuner remains to be seen but I am pretty sure it’ll definitely be wider than the Compass itself.

I think one thing you could do is check width of Compass in India specs and the width of the Commander from Brazilian website sources etc. That should give you some idea.

Another option is somewhere earlier in this thread is also a Brazilian detailed comparison video between Fortuner and Commander. You could see they might have printed the specs during the video (in English). I definitely recall price being printed on the screen towards the end of the video as well as power and torque figures earlier on. So chances are it may have listed LWH details as well.

Thanks, i just did. While the Indian Compass is 1818 mm, the Jeep Commander is 1905 mm, which is more than the Fortuner or the Kodiaq. The Japanese though are masters at packaging so i have never felt the width to be less in the Fortuner for 3 abreast. Let us see how much of this increased width in the Commander translates into actual in-cabin space.

Jeep Meridian expected by early June.

Quote:
The Meridian is expected to go into production in the coming months, with a launch likely around June this year. Prices are likely to start around the Rs 35 lakh mark.

European body isn't very accommodating for 3 in a seat usually, the doors are too thick, the roof is low, the floor is scooped out and it creates a rather tall hump in the middle - altogether makes second row a two seater - this is the scene usually. To make matters worse the panoramic sunroof will reduce the headroom as well. Fortuner has a good second row and a usable 3rd row.

I have seen this test vehicle on the road, the rear end was very high off the ground maybe they were doing some suspension testing , it looked very similar to Duster AWD rear end - very thin axle shafts as is the case with crossovers.
