Thanks Venkatesh. Have they widened the track a bit? Looks wider than the 5 seater Compass. If they have widened, then it also addresses one of the major issues with the Compass - in-cabin width.

Looking at the size and stance, I think this is just an extended version of the existing Compass. I doubt this will be a Fortuner rival. It could however be a competitor to the Tata Safari and the upcoming XUV700. Let's just wait and see.

I think when people are comparing with Fortuner it’s partly on account of expected price similarity. Also, Safari is 4x2 whereas Compass is 4x4 so in that sense one more common factor with Fortuner rather than Safari.

Given that current top of line 4x4 Compass retails at about 35 lakh (on road) whereas Safari 4x2 top of line retails at about 25-26 lakh (on road), if assuming the 7 seat Compass comes in over 40 big ones, people will invariably compare it with the Fortuner much sooner than a Safari. Also with other comparable like Tiguan All Space, Kodiaq etc. Possibly also XUV 7OO if it has 4x4, as a cheaper alternative.

Jeep would be foolish to pit the commander against the Fortuner and the Endeavour. This 7 seat version is a stretched Compass at best, and the similarities although not bad, cannot command a huge premium over the 5 seat Compass. If the new Safari, which is the 7 seat version of the Harrier is only a lakh more than the 5 seat version then why shouldn’t the Commander too follow a similar logic? I think more than anything Jeep needs additional numbers and if they offer both the Compass and the Commander at a gap of 1-1.4 lakh then it surely would attract a lot of customers. But anything too high for the 7 seat version would prove to be a bad move.

Compass's small size means you have koren twins on one side, Hector/ Harrier on the other side who have closed the doors on it. Now the only way is increase the utility of the vehicle add two more seats and become a 3 row crossover. Now they have to deal with Safari/ Hector+ and then Alcazar in a while that is if Jeep can launch this in a reasonable amount of time.

If this thing flops, FCA will just ramp up manufacturing of Tata Nexon in their factory , some components and call it a day.

Jeep is going to be competiting soon with the likes of Ford and Toyota with some competition from VW too. This is one territory where these two have not been beaten by anyone yet. Toyota is like a Samurai now. Will the Engine be powerful enough, I mean will they push the same 2L engine close to 200+ HP and approv 500NM Torque with either an 8 Speed Auto or 9 Speed.

As shared by other forum members, Jeep Compass touches around 35L pricing for the top model so this will touch 45L ? That is my guess and if that is the case then it will be a Dead Fish on arrival.

I noticed one thing on this pic - is it captured while driver was braking-hard? there’s evident nose dive or the car stance itself has the rear lifted weirdly inclined!

Jeep H6 Commander to get mild-hybrid diesel in India.

Jeep H6 Commander to be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel in India. It Will be the first model from Jeep to debut mild-hybrid diesel tech. This engine will feature 48V mild-hybrid with a BSG Belt driven starter generator system.

Jeep India is currently testing the H6 Commander in not one but two versions that differentiate in seating layouts and cosmetic bits. The version here in these spy shots is the seven-seat variant that will come with a bench seat for the second row and may not get a sunroof. Additionally, there will be a higher variant as well with captain's chairs for the second row and a panoramic sunroof among other features.

Jeep Commander will launch in India by mid-2022.
