Hi,

Saw a similar camouflaged jeep on the Pune- Ahmednagar highway. Yes it looked longer in length and similar to the pictures posted earlier.

Really got to hand it to FCA's turtle-slow response times.

They launched the terrific handling Punto & Linea, but with mediocre engines. By the time more powerful turbo-petrols came, the market had moved on.

They launched the awesome Compass, but without a Diesel AT that the market begged for. The Diesel AT came 2 years after launch - at a stiff price - but the market had moved on.

Now, so many years after launch, we are getting a "7" seater version, which is more like a 4 + 2. Why the heck wasn't this launched earlier?

The Jeep Compass was launched at a premium price, which is understandable as it didn't have so much competition. But in the last 2 years, the Compass has started to look overpriced with the newer, cheaper competition. Why on earth have there not been any variant / price corrections?

The renegade looks like the espresso and the compass' love child. IMHO the resemblance to the espresso wouldn't let me go for it. IDK about the rest of the market though. A 7 seater compass for just a small amount more than the compass should be a great offering. Hope they take a page out of maruti's book and not bother about the car eating into the sales of the regular compass.

As much as I love the brand Jeep, have to admit that Jeep doesn't have any relevant products for India which can be a good seller, other than the compass. The Compass stands out as a niche compact SUV with its elegant and classy styling, powerful engine and tremendous build quality, but what else in their portfolio. Though personally I do not like the way the Renegade looks, Jeep should have launched it as an accessible offering for the mass market. Compass could have led with Renegade to support and Jeep build the portfolio from there with the Compass 7 seater, etc.

But now after the analysis paralysis and the pandemic, Jeep is in no man's land in India. Not sure how long they will exist in India.

The failure of Fiat is not FCA's fault, but the failure of brand Jeep is definitely theirs. Hope the complete top management in India business along with the ones heading them in the headquarters get fired for the complete lack of competency. Not at all good to see an iconic brand struggling.

Jeep Compass 7-Seater Spotted Testing In India again!

Apart from the third row, the Jeep Compass seven-seater is also expected to be more premium in terms of features, and materials used. The car is likely to come with a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the new UConnect infotainment system, new steering wheel, automatic climate control and more. In addition, expect to see new materials as well on the Compass seven-seater.

will get a more powerful version of the 2.0-liter diesel engine that currently serves on the five-seat Compass.

In its current form, the Multijet engine develops 173hp in the Compass, and 170hp in the MG Hector and the new BS6 Tata Harrier (in the earlier BS4 Harrier it only produced 140hp). The engine is expected to come paired to the 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as standard considering its higher price point.

If they just increase the wheelbase and the overhangs to add to the length but retain the rest of the dimensions, it is going to have unusual proportions. As you can see from the test mule, the bonnet seems to be really short for the considerably longish, estate-like cabin. Narrower width will make it not very specious for the middle row.

It's a far fetched dream but can the Tata Gravitas see these power figures too considering it is also the 7 seater version of the Harrier?

The Compass was a competent monocoque chassis, for its wheelbase. This longer one might be pushing it a bit too far! The Endy and Fortuner are what they are because of the ladder on frame setup.

For families keen only on the 7 seats, there are a few cheaper, more loaded options in the market and the new XUV500 should push that card even further.

Jeep should be spending resources elsewhere and bring their already tried and tested products here else this will become the VW Ameo story soon. Where is the Jeep Renegade? FCA truly missed the bus here in India!

An executive working for FCA lives in my building and during a casual night walk chat he mentioned that the 7-seater version isn't likely to come in 2021. It will most likely be launched in 2022. And it will have the same engine as what we currently have in the regular 5-seat version.

So yeah ....

As such, the entry-level engine option for Europe should come in the form of a 1.3-liter turbo while the United States will be treated to the 2.4-liter TigerShark.

Jeep may further sweeten the deal with a plug-in hybrid option, the 4xe, which combines the 1.3-liter turbo mentioned earlier with two electric motors. One of them serves as a generator and works in synergy with the engine, while the other is incorporated into the rear axle. The Compass 4xe for Europe features a reduction gear, and as per the NEDC2 testing cycle, the 11.4-kWh battery offers 50 kilometers (31 miles) of EV range.

Future Jeep 7-seat SUV won’t use Compass moniker

The upcoming Jeep seven-seat SUV will have quite a few things in common with the Compass SUV, it will have its own identity and branding and will not carry ‘Compass’ name.

- New Jeep 7-seat SUV will be longer than the Compass
- It will come with a 2.0-litre, Multijet turbo-diesel producing around 200hp
- Will rival the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster.

Interior space will be increased with a longer wheelbase.

The new seven-seat SUV being developed by Jeep will use the same monocoque platform as the Compass available in India. However, the carmaker is going to tweak the platform in order to increase its length, to accommodate the added row of seats. This increase won’t just be in the extremities, as the wheelbase will also be increased. This should translate to improved interior space, especially in the middle row.

The new model is slated to be launched in India, sometime in late 2021.
