Re: June 2019 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Looking at the current numbers i am sure Hyundai is going to eat into MSIL market share sooner than later thanks to their better product placement strategy. MSIL has started taking customers for a ride and for granted and it shows in the quality of the cars they make. Even If they sell garbage MSIL knows people will still buy it thanks to their monopoly as their were hardly any options to choose from in early years. They care least about safety and quality of the cars and sell tin and trash cans in the name of cars which could result in fatalities but MSIL hardly cares and bothers about people.

Having said that Hyundai on the other hand have started to price their cars perfectly without compromising on quality and design. In VENUE they have a sure shot winner thanks
to its aggressive pricing and brilliant design and packaging. CRETA has taken a hit surely but I feel Its i20 which will be worst hit due to overlapping prices between i20 and VENUE mid variants.

People dont mind today to shell out more money if the car comes with better build and safety features and the mind set has started to change slowly from Kitna deti hai to Kitne Air bags hai. i20 Sportz comes in close vicinity of VENUE S petrol though the former is loaded to the brim with features compared to VENUE but if i am in the market to look for a premium hatch it will make more sense to buy VENUE than i20. Buying VENUE has its own advantages and makes more sense for the sheer value it gives. The extra boot space with higher ground clearance and better looking and fresh model is really worth the money.

Thanks to a Team-BHP Fan (who prefers to stay anonymous) for sending this information in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP page!

It's a bloodbath out there guys and the situation is terrible for car manufacturers. Tata Motors still has stock of 2018 cars at the factory. I've seen a document where they're offering one-time discounts to dealers on the 2018 stock. Most of it is the Tigor (500+ cars), followed by the Tiago and a handful of other cars (including some Harriers & Hexas).

Quote:
Concorde Mumbai has 120 cars of 2018 build in their stockyard (9 cars are of 2017 & 7 cars are of 2016). They currently have 764 total cars in stock & got a new stockyard in February just to accommodate the newer stocks.

Re: June 2019 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

I think GTO had hit the nail on the head by calling the prevalent conditions as blood bath. We the members of Team BHP form a very small fraction of total buyers. Our preferences do not mirror always the expectations of the market. We can say that the situation is so because cars were overpriced but the truth is people were lapping it all up till last year. For the past one year what exactly changed is anyone's guess. Is it a perfect storm where factors like high price of cars, high taxation, rising fuel prices, uncertain regulatory environment, low market sentiment, rural distress etc all combined together? Or is that an over simplification ? I don't know. But bottom line is cars are not selling and revenues are not coming in. So, the first cut off happens at R&D as more money has to be funneled towards discounts and promotions. Less R&D means lesser innovation and in the long run we, the customers will lose. I hope situation will not be as dire as I am projecting but i am watching the auto industry from very close and things are really bad.

Re: June 2019 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

S Cross numbers are at its lowest in the last six months. Maruti will need to rework its strategy. Plonking a BS6 Petrol engine just might not work. They're also readying a facelift for the Brezza, with the focus specifically on adding a sunroof and curtain airbags, something its main competitor, the venue already has.

Took delivery of the S cross today. It felt more premium as compared to the Brezza. Hoping for a good ownership stint.

GTO, does FADA release manufacture wise registration trend as well ? Or are they under manufactures thumb for not sharing such info ? I think, since they have access to VAHAN database, they can surely pull out manufacturer wise trend.

Even Madhya Pradesh is missing.

Edit: Just noticed that it's based Monthly vehicle registration data released by Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). Since Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh are not yet linked to the VAHAN system, their data is not reflected.

Re: June 2019 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

There's a significant drop in dispatches for Grandi10.

Previous month it had clocked ~8,000 units and now lower to 6,907, a15% drop.

Could this be due to the next gen Grandi10 in pipeline or what?

Here are some inferences from the data:

The Passenger Vehicle sales continue its spiral its downward trend. Auto manufactures curb sending cars to dealers as inventory pile–up is all time high. The Passenger Vehicle sales saw a double dip of -17.7% in June’19 (Y-O-Y). Car sales slip in its 8th consecutive with no positive signs seen in the horizon.

- Maruti Suzuki reports a negative growth of 17.2% which in turn reflects the mood of the entire auto industry. Nexa sales dip at 28% while the Area sees a 14% drop(Y-OY). Manages to keep a 50.1% of Market share. Launches are expected in late August, so we can expect the trend to continue in the next two months too.

- Hyundai too sees a negative trend even with the new launch, but de-growth is in single digit but the biggest one it increases its market share and its market share growth is more than that of Maruti Suzuki’s.

- Mahindra consolidates itself as the 3rd contender in the sales chart, and is the only player to have recorded a positive growth. XUV3OO has performed well and has already shipped 25,000 units from the plant.

- Toyota outsmarts Honda – Glanza proves to be a successful attempt with least cost investment. Fortuner and Innova does its share effect on the monthly figures.

- Tata seem to be struggling and likely to see a tougher competition in its established segments.

- Nissan –Datsun receives a shocker of – 56% de-growth with its ageing Terrano beating the Kicks in sale dispatches

- FCA now ranks at the lowest end of the chart and has the lowest figures in Market share.
Jeep needs to be worried as Compass is now a 3 digit affair!
- Volkswagen a Skoda stands still as its market share is near neutral, but can they survive this re-launch game till 2021?

Market Share:

- Maruti Suzuki still sells 1 in every 2 cars sold, but a dropping trend is seen now. Maruti Suzuki will try to defend this share and time will paint the real picture. Products to look forward to will be Petrol Variant of Vitara Brezza , and its Mini Cross over – S- Presso. Will Ertiga Cross help in stopping the dwindling numbers at NEXA?

- Maruti Suzuki’s loss in market share reflects in Hyundai’s increase in Market share. Though the company has a negative growth, Venue has helped Hyundai in containing the negative growth. Hyundai Kona launch to be seen only as a branding exercise.

- Nissan, Renault and FCA has to worry as the negative trend is spiraling and with no products visible, not sure how they will contain this trend.
Reanualt’s Duster re-launch is a farce , will it join the Kicks and Captur as flops?

Segment Leaders:

Entry Level: Maruti Suzuki’s Alto claws back to be the best seller for June and a gains market share at the expense of all its competition. Datsun is the worst affected in this lot.
Attachment 1892161

Compact Hatchback: SWIFT and WagonR are leading this segment. All other players seem irrelevant as the numbers are half compared to the top 2 in the segment.
Attachment 1892162

Premium Hatchback: By default it is the Baleno. Glanza now holds the 3rd spot with Hyundai’s i20 far behind the Baleno.
Attachment 1892163

Compact SUV: Hyundai’s Venue touted as the segment killer almost reaches there. But for now Vitara Brezza is the leader.
Mahindra’s XUV300 and Tata Nexon holds on to its numbers but Ford’s EcoSport is losing its customer base rapidly.
Attachment 1892167

Compact sedan: Repeat story continues every month as Maruti Suzuki’s Dzire revives this segment and sells consistently above 14k + units.
Honda Amaze is the only formidable competition but a very distant one. Other than the top 2, all the others seem to face the brunt as customers look to c/suv’s.
Attachment 1892164

Executive Sedan: The see- sawing between City and Ciaz continues and this month City becomes the leader. The segment is losing its sheen and will Ciaz will be shared with Toyota even in the lackluster times will remain to be seen. Will Yaris be withdrawn as it sees a all-time low of 94 %(Y-O-Y)
Attachment 1892165

Premium/Luxury Sedan: Honda Civic becomes the undisputed leader followed closely by Skoda Octavia. While in the Luxury segment Skoda Superb is the leader.
Attachment 1892160
Attachment 1892166

Mid Size SUV: Undisputed leader in Creta hold its fort. A segment eyed by almost all manufactures and will see the true effect of Seltos and Hector in the coming months.
Attachment 1892168

MPV: Maruti Suzuki Ertiga takes this segment to new heights. This segment grows at 3% which is the second best to the CUV segment.
Marazzo is on a down trend the day the new Ertiga was launched, even Toyota’s Innova shows a negative growth.
Attachment 1892169

Van: Omni phased out with Eeco and increases its numbers with practically no competition around.

Re: June 2019 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Very well put...but then why don't we make the much desired change in ourselves which we expect from others?

If the car travels is taking up so much time, you can always use your two wheeler/public transport for your daily commute.

Excuse me, if the travel times are almost same by 2W/Public Transport.

So Honda with its pricing strategy isn't going to sell a single Accord ever! Now with Hector launch and Seltos on the way, need to see how it is going to disrupt the segment.

Don't think EV's will be counted under SIAM's current sales data. Since SIAM data is currently categorized in engine CC's.
