The DZire project for example had a development budget of 1000 crores. Just 1% for XL6 and we all know why! Maruti's BR-V moment?

That said, should appreciate the aggression shown by Maruti. They know the market is going through desperate times, and are trying to make the most out of their existing range by trying to create a new variant, marketed as a new product, retailing into a separate sales channel.

Should have sold well with the 1.5 diesel option. I'm not really sure on the petrol only strategy. Time will tell.

I must say, XL6 is a good looking vehicle. MSIL did a good job by converting an average looking MPV into a good looking crossover-like styling. IMO, large roof rails, body cladding and hexagonal grille with LED headlamp & DRL are making this car premium. It's equipped with all the bells and whistles which makes it a premium offering.

I suspect with this offering normal Ertiga diesel will slowly shift to the taxi segment. Bucket seats in the second row add up to the premium feel. However, IMO, not offring a 7-seater variant is a mistake. I was waiting for this launch and ready to cancel my existing booking of Ertiga VXI for 7-seater XL6. Now, I "ll remain with my initial choice.

Personally for me, there are two major issues.

1. No 7 seat option.
2. Puny Tyres on a gargantuan body.

On the concern regarding wheels, It appears hypothetically as if this tect platform cannot take any larger wheels.

Baleno, Ciaz and Ertiga - All of the three have similar wheel diameters of around 622 mm, which is probably the upper ceiling which the platform could have been designed for.

If it would have been possible to fit any larger wheels (talking about overall diameter, not alloy size), then would have definitely gone for it, as it hardly makes much difference cost wise.

In summary, I would prefer the plain Ertiga. It is cheaper, and looks subtle.

Well I was just looking at the Tavera and Xylo on the road today which also has a big tall boy body shell and guess whats the Rim size....

Guess what, in spite of having same rim size of 15inches, the overall wheel diameter (which includes the tyre also) of the Tavera is larger than the ertiga's by a cool 26mm.

Forget these, even the highly undertyred Qualis has larger wheels than the Ertiga, inspite of being only 14inchers.

Good one.

Personally, I feel that sidewall height till 130mm is perfectly acceptable (S-cross, Creta etc.). Well contained body roll in both these examples.

So, for Ertiga, something in between (like a 205/65 R15) would look pretty good, without inducing motion sickness.

I was highlighting the cost spent and how much of that went into the high-strength steel part of the XL6 project.

Surely Maruti had enough to bump up the safety aspect of such a "premium" iteration of the Ertiga.

I think the missing diesel engine option is deliberate as they don't want a bunch of cabbies buying this model. It'll eventually come I guess. What's really annoying is missing 6 airbag option- that would have completed the product.
