Rumour: Suzuki's next EV in India could be an MPV

Suzuki’s next electric vehicle in India could be based on Ertiga.

- The electric Ertiga may differ in length from the petrol and diesel variants of the car

- Suzuki has been trying to develop affordable EVs for India on its own and will head the development of its second EV

Quote:
Their plans have received a boost from incentives unveiled in the Union budget for fiscal 2019-20 that includes income tax rebates for electric car buyers and exemption from customs duty on imports of lithium-ion cells.
Quote:
Suzuki has been trying to develop affordable electric vehicles for India on its own and will head the development of this vehicle, but Toyota Motor Corp. may also choose to sell them in India.

Re: Rumour: Suzuki's next EV in India could be an MPV

I saw the news too, but I'm not buying it. For starters, Maruti is a complete newbie in EV tech & Suzuki has no resources to develop it independently (that's why the tie-up with Toyota). Their EVs will logically start with smaller cars which are easier due to the size, weight and price.

If you see this statement, Livemint clearly doesn't know what they're talking about:

Mint could not independently verify whether Toyota will partner Suzuki in developing the electric Ertiga.
