Auto sector slowdown claim made to defame country: Govt. Representative

The claim of slowdown in the automobile sector was made to "defame" the country, and wondered how it could be true when there were traffic jams on roads.

Quote:
there were many households that had multiple cars and there were traffic jams on roads as he questioned the claims of a slowdown in the auto sector.

Re: The great Indian automobile industry slowdown of 2018-19

Seeing the month on month numbers the whole issue of slowdown I felt it was hogwash created by Automobile Industry to get tax incentives at cost of taxpayers. If there was real slowdown we would have seen sales of vehicles being halved and Maruti would be struggling to sell cars and would have reduced prices instead they are raising the prices. I feel these manufacturers have become cartel.

So,

No traffic jams = No slowdown.

I like how some people think. We've all read the numbers. I think it's safe to say that the slowdown is very much real.

The industry continues its downward trend, barring a few. Market expected to revive in late 2020.

KIA numbers are baffling at such low dispatches!

Re: The great Indian automobile industry slowdown of 2018-19

Is it a slowdown for Kia or are they probably prioritizing exports? A 70% drop seems like an extreme variation although it is a new product.

Bosch to cut thousands of jobs in India as auto sales slump

Quote:
In India, Bosch expects auto sales to only recover in the next two-three years after plummeting in 2019 because of regulatory changes, threat of electrification, a liquidity crunch and an economic slowdown.
Quote:
will cut “a couple of thousand” jobs in India in the next four years

This shows you how Indian auto industry has underperformed in the last decade. Between 2010 and 2020 the market has expanded by less than 1 million extra cars per year, showing a very low CAGR of less than 5%.

On top of that 75% of that market is controlled by Maruti+Hyundai, with everyone else fighting for the rest of 25% which has hardly grown.

Bosch to Cut a Thousand Jobs Due to The Automobile Market Slump

The Indian arm of Robert Bosch GmbH is slated to cut thousands of blue and white collared jobs, due to the automobile industry slowdown. About 10% of 3,700 white-collar jobs and a slightly higher percentage of 6,300 blue-collar jobs will be cut according to Mr Soumitra Bhattacharya, the Managing Director. That roughly translates to over one thousand jobs and not "thousands", going by the press note (link below).

The nebulous situation in the automobile market and switchover sooner or later to electric mobility are to affect many of the manufacturers and OE suppliers alike. Hence, we need to be prepared for tougher times ahead in the industry that provides jobs to millions.

Only about a decade ago, we were discussing about the very promising prospects for Bosch in India, with it's proprietory over supplying fuel injection equipment, in view of the spurt in demand for common rail diesel technology and the multiple car and commercial vehicle manufacturers sourcing it from Bosch. And now in 2019-2020, the scenario is in for a negative change for Bosch and many others in a dynamic market.

Hyundai to delay new plant by 2-3 yrs.

Expects sales to be near flat or single digit +ve in 2020 and below the 2018 figures.

Quote:
present market sentiments in India are not very positive. It may take up to three years to achieve the sales level achieved in 2018, when market conditions were still positive.
Quote:
Korean carmaker Hyundai has said that it will not construct a new factory in India till at least twothree years as the economic slowdown and poor consumer sentiment have dented sales and depressed future market forecast.
Quote:
Hyundai India ended 2019 with a 7% decline in domestic sales, while the fall was 3% after including exports

Amid the current slowdown, fire at Varroc’s Pune plant may put supplies to key automakers on the line.

-The plant is used to manufacture headlamps and tail lamps for passenger and commercial vehicles

- Supplies to major auto's like Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (M&M), Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles Ltd (VECV), Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd,T ata Motors and Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd and others at stake

-Varroc is the single-source of lighting products to some of the most important models,

Re: The great Indian automobile industry slowdown of 2018-19

New Budget, Upcoming BS6, Covid-19 Virus, all contribute to the auto sales slow-down.

VW, Fiat, Nissan, Mahindra, Honda and Tata lead the top companies that de-grew the most in Feb-20.

Renault and to some extent Ford (on a lower base value)seem to have bucked the trend.

Renault and Nissan couldn't have been more diverse. Renault at +40 and Nissan at -62. Wow! And, Honda? Once 3rd largest in India is now down to 8th. Not sure how long they will remain in India for. Goes to show complacency will you do you in, no matter how strong a brand you are.

Renault growing at a healthy 40% YoY is good. Looks like the Triber is contributing significantly to those numbers. I myself am waiting eagerly for any news on the launch of a Turbo charged version of the Triber. An any reason why VW registered the sharpest drop of 86.6%? Eroding confidence in their vehicles?

Last edited by PVS : 2nd March 2020 at 15:16. Reason: wanted to check up on the steep drop of VW vehicles
