Is it the 5-door Jimny or just another rendering?

Seems like a transformation retaining the charm of the original look.

Wish it was real but no, it is yet another render. Although there is a 5 door Suzuki Jimny concept, but that too is not by Suzuki.

The actual 5 door Jimny will arrive in 2023 only as per my friend who works at Maruti.

Jimny is an iconic brand even here in Japan. The 5 door version is very much very on for 2023. And from what I understand it is a mix of longer wheelbase and 5 door.

Looks like Maruti will make use of less stringent BNVSAP ratings, rather a shortcut than tougher GlobalNCAP tests to paint their cars safer ones.
How reliable is this information? I don't think 56km/h is the decided speed for the much-spoken-about Bharat NCAP project. That's the speed decided for the pass/fail homologation test, where it belongs. An NCAP test at 56km/h would be a stupid decision IMO because the lower performance limits (i.e., for scoring zero stars) would then be equivalent to the car being illegal to sell, and that is not an area NCAPs should be concerned with.

I would not be optimistic for (64km/h!) front offset test scores for the Jimny unless Maruti Suzuki makes improvements, because even the European car, when it was on sale, showed quite poor performance in the Euro NCAP frontal offset. The driver's head made unstable head contact on the airbag (which was reported to have insufficient pressure) and the passenger compartment became unstable. Interestingly for an off-roader, the Jimny had curtain airbags and not just seat-mounted combination torso-head airbags and I hope we get the same standard spec in India.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Maruti Suzuki to launch Jimny in the next fiscal year ( April'22- March'23)

- The Jimny will be priced below Mahindra's Thar.
- The second SUVto be launched will be the product ( co-developed with Toyota )in the mid SUV space.

Quote:
The product introduction will start from the next fiscal year with the launch of the two SUVs, one would compete with Hyundai Creta while the other, Jimny, would be positioned against Mahindra’s Thar. These models together are expected to add nearly 2.5 lakh vehicles a year to the company’s volume

Great news, but are they launching the 3door version in our market? Earlier Maruti said they will be launching a more practical 5 door version in India followed by the 3 door version later.

And, the Jimny should be priced considerably lower than the Thar (max ex-showroom price of 10.5 to 11lakhs for 3 doors and 11 to 12 lakhs for 5 door) as the latter is better equipped in almost every single aspect!

Thanks for sharing.

Catching up with other launches generally is a sign of half battle lost already. Tata and Mahindra are way ahead in the game now with solid technology and products - EVs, autonomous driving tech, 4 or 5 star safety ratings to name a few.

MSIL reminds me of the class topper in school who used to rote-learn till class VIII but got thrown away when others upped their game and started focusing on application based learning for competitive exams

MSIL are masters of the catching-up game. You will find multiple examples of this catching up and dethroning the first mover in their history so far. Tata started the compact sedan. Dzire can later and swept away everyone else. The same happened with sub 4m SUVs too. I am inclined to believe the same will happen in the case of Jimny, EVs, and safer cars.

MSIL has woken up and will catch-up most likely. Just that they are late into the game as they underestimated the Indian consumer both in terms of propensity to pay and loyalty towards a brand. Thar and XUV7OO commanding a waiting period of more than a year is a testimony to this.

MSIL is definitely the master in cracking the first time car buyer segment comprised of entry level hatchbacks and sedans. However, they now need to penetrate into the 15L+ segment where they neither have the brand value nor the expertise. I am hoping they will leverage the association with Toyota well to make this happen.

Hope some sense prevails in the MSIL boffins, and launch one of the 2 at the Auto Expo next month.

Thanks for the link. Their IG seems like a rage. In India 6K followers is peanuts but for Japan, it is definitely a big number. And a particular post of theirs of the Jimny got 8k likes. Whoa!

Eagerly waiting for a good video where they actually drive it properly.
