There was always a large number of people aspiring that the Gypsy came with originally fitted 5 door setup.

Many civilians as well as armed forces or para-military or govt functionaries used to make their own arrangements for modifying the Gypsy into a 5 door one.

Hopefully the Jimny 5 door will click with atleast some people to have Maruti keep it manufacturing even for the civilians.

However, as this thread itself is testimony to it, there have been many occasions in the past few years when the Jimny was nearly launched. It will still be 1 year away from launch even if the Cartoq source cited above is true.

5 door version meets all my needs.
. Compact
. 4x4
. Front facing rear seats

The narrow width is a boon both in urban travel as well as tricky mountain roads. Coupled with its light weight it is really a go-any-where vehicle. I am eagerly awaiting to get one.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

I saw it in 2018 in Dubai. It’s really lovely. I wonder why when India is One of Suzukis biggest markets, we are being given this poor treatment.

Going by the Brezza pricing; just imagine what the Jimny will be priced it at, may be a Jeep Compass, considering Suzuki can't make enough Jimny's to satisfy the demand for this cute little Jeep.

The 5 door version reminds me of the Fiat Panda limousine from Top Gear. Hope the final product looks better.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Considering that the 3 door gypsy last retailed about about 7.5L five years back, even if the Jimny were to be launched in India, the price will not be lesser than this - in stead, it will be about 10L OTR. At this price, there will not be many takers to justify launch.

Army could take some, but is there a soft top version of this ?

If the Army does take these, then we could hope for a few batches for civilian sale. Again, the chances and numbers remain slim at this time. All about sales figures.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Let us bear in mind that as mentioned elsewhere on the forum, Small decidedly does not equal Cheap.

If we want the International Spec Jimny, we will have to pay the price for it.

Ut I do take your point that in Maruti’s world, it is just hard numbers all the way.

The bean counters are the real rulers.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

If they do carry over the 4x4 and slap in the new 6-TC they are using on the new Ertiga, XL6 and Brezza (along with paddles), I am sold.
However, the wheelbase looks really ugly. And still for me, Scorpio N and Thar would take preference over this (yes, different segments but what).

If the gypsy was still on sale now, it would have been priced at least 75k more due to inflation.

The Jimny further adds a air conditioner, power steering, power windows/ central locking, air bags, ABS. This alone will increase the price by 1L to 1.5L.

The Jimny also has traction control, hill hold, hill descent, lane departure (LDW), lane weave (LW) and forward autonomous braking (FAB), ICE.

So expect a minimum price of 12L Ex-Showroom.

Very Optimistic, IMO.

Like ShankarBalan said - small is not cheap. 12L would be in Ignis/Baleno territory. And Jimny would not be positioned at those levels.

Well, IF it is ever launched

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

K15C and 6 speed AT on the 5 door Jimny would be the setup for me to make me switch from my 2nd Gen Thar. But mild Hybrid battery will be a hazard in case of water wading.

15-16 lakhs on-road for Jimny 5 door with 6 speed AT would be fine for me. Provided if Mahindra does not do a another XUV700 or ScorpioN like pricing for the 5 door Thar, Jimny 5 door will be DOA then. But these pricing game of Mahindra is just for the headlines and marketing. A logically spec'd one is pretty expensive anyway.

But let's be realistic here. After ScorpioN launch, chances of a Thar 5 door looks slim to me, and even if it gets launched, Top spec Diesel AT 4x4 will be 20-22 lakhs on road. Expensive. And as for the Jimny, its been like 4 years or so we have heard of a Jimny launch happening soon but in my dreams.
But if Mahindra does not launch a 5 door Thar but MSIL do launch a Jimny (provided it has got a AT option) and priced well, Jimny 5 door is coming to my garage.

But, I don't have much hope left.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Though its too early of me assuming or presuming anything but I feel that finally Suzuki has given us a True successor of The Great Gypsy. Would really love to see them in both Petrol and Diesel Engines.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

It is said fortune favors the brave and
Maruti Suzuki bestows Jimny to people who don’t give up hope and wait…. Impatiently though

Owning a Gypsy was my fathers unfulfilled Desire. I hope to fulfil it with Jimny

My dreamy Jimny would be with -

Suzuki’s 1.4L turbo with mild hybrid 4X4
6 speed AT
215/75 R15 tyres

Fingers crossed

Meanwhile, Carwow has come up again with a new video in which they pitch the Jimny against a behemoth. Like they do with Duster also. This one is interesting too!

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Jimny to make a comeback in UK and EU as a hybrid.

This looks interesting. Whether this percolates down to India remains to be seen.
