This is what I was thinking as well. I am not saying that they don't deserve this or we deserve more attention etc. But India being their bread and butter market they should give us their International models on priority. They even sell the cute looking Alto in Pak. + Jimny is priced at equivalent sum of INR ₹18 Lakhs.

But my jealousy ended when I came to know of their pricing, as well as the fact that they have many old gen cars.
For example the WagonR, and the fact they still have the 1st gen Swift being assembled there!!!

And they still have the Bolan on sale (our Omni). Ofcourse the Omni was only stopped last year, yet it already had a successor in the Eeco a decade back. And the Alto is plucked from JDM, 660cc engine et al.

Have stopped looking at our immediate neighbours' markets and being jealous. Yeah, still jealous of their ease in importing any car. But in overall market choices, price affordability and A.S.S we are waaayy better.

Though They should start treating our market with respect. Heck, Hyundai has more respect for our market.

Suzuki Jimny confirmed for India in this report:

Quote:
Our checks indicate a new product pipeline including gasoline Scross, XL5 UV-styled hatchback, BS6 diesel models, Jimny off-roader UV, electric hatchback, 800cc hatchback, new UV (over 4m), among others over the next two years. We have a Buy rating on the stock.”

Suzuki likely to export made in India Jimny to S Africa!

There are strong rumours in some parts of the world, that Suzuki Japan is already developing (or already prepared to launch) a LWB version of the Jimny, powered by a 2.0L petrol engine. It isn't MSIL who are developing the 4-door version, but the 1.5L engine may do duty on the LWB version in India (we love our little engines!).

No major engineering (design wise) on Jimny will happen in India.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

I am hoping against hope that they bring the three-door Jimny to India. The three-door version is so well proportioned and has so much character! Extending it would take away much of the charm and I hope they decide against it.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

I too hope they only bring the 3 door Jimny here to India. It looks like a smaller version of the Sierra. It would also be perfect for the off-road fun. Though we like big cars, the 5 door looks out of proportions and doesn't really suit the Jimny. The 1.5L is refined and relaiable but I wish there would be a option of a diesel engine sometime in the future.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

A tuning company in Japan called Damd has modified Suzuki Jimny to look like the vintage Land Rover Defender and it is called the Little D. This body kit is available for sale and individual parts like the bumper, grille, lights, can also be bought.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

The Jimny has an off-road legacy of its own. It would certainly make sense to capitalize on the booming SUV market in India. Suzuki is not available in one of the largest SUV markets -the US, but sells considerable numbers in Europe.

I read on Car & Driver (earlier this year) that the Jimny costs the equivalent of $19,300 in Germany before taxes.

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Suzuki Jimny returns to Europe as a 2 Seat Commercial Vehicle!

Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?-jimny3.jpg

Quote:
And it’ll be sold in spring 2021 in “very limited numbers”. And… that’s the end of the caveats, actually. We drove our TG Garage Jimny with the seats almost permanently down thanks to how few people ever ventured back there.

Ditching them completely has freed up 33 more litres of luggage space, too, the total now 863 litres.
Quote:
A commercial makeover plays nicely up to its blocky aesthetic, while inside it retains all of the car Jimny’s safety tech and off-road trickery, so you’re not really missing out on anything beyond the rear seats.

Suzuki plans to make India sole production hub for Jimny

Suzuki to make India sole production hub for new SUV, Jimny; could use Maruti's Gurgaon plant.

Source - Economic Times

Quote:
Suzuki Motor will make India the exclusive production hub for a five-door variant of the Jimny sports utility vehicle (SUV), people with knowledge of its plans said. The Japanese automaker is likely to initially import components and assemble the three-door variant of the off-road vehicle at subsidiary Maruti

Re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Why 2022-23? Will the phase out the next gen Jimny by 2050?

Based on what I've read about the Thar, I can conclude that it is not going to be cheap. Suzuki should capitalize on the lower end of the market and ride the wave by launching it by end 2021.
