Toyota to build new plant in India by 2010: report | Reuters:Cheering:

Finaly, it seems, TOYOTA is speaking serious business in INDIA. If TOYOTA use their true business tactics, in INDIA, " TATAs " and "MARUTI" , be prpared to fight against a mighty competitor, who is ready to go to any extent to capture the market.

They need good affordable models first that the Indian public can relate to. Else that 2nd factory can be used for growing sugarcane or a barn for producing milk and manure.

Are they hoping to see whirlwind sales of the corolla or the innova ?

Unless they come up with something very nice & worthy I don't see the investment being justified. Maybe the new Corolla or the small car would be good but it's still unknown.

For the benefit of us customers, let's hope they come out with some good products.

According to the report, the small car to be rolled out from the proposed new plant would be priced at about 8,00,000 yen (approximately Rs 2,88,000), the lowest price of Toyota cars.

They might use that plant for exports. If thats the case, the net effect for Indian consumers would still be nought.

Toyota Has No Plans for New India Plant

Toyota Motor Corp. has no concrete plans to build a new factory in India but is considering the introduction a new small car to tap growing automobile demand in emerging markets, a company spokesman said Tuesday.
The remarks came after the respected Nihon Keizai business newspaper reported Japan's biggest automaker plans to spend up to 50 billion yen (US$413 million; euro317.52 million) on a new Indian factory, to be built near the company's first assembly plant in Bangalore.

Toyota has gone from sleeping to dead I think. The car mags dont even have a scoop on any upcoming Toyota these days.

Volvo is coming, VW is coming. All these people are going to sell expensive cars! Toyota has surely lost its way. They are not even stung by the success of Honda! Shame really!
