Dual tone Yaris launched at 8.65 Lacs. Source. Quite frankly it reminds me of the dual tone Etios Liva version.

re: The Toyota Yaris dual-tone edition, now launched at Rs. 8.65 lakhs

Most people those who graduate to a sedan from hatchback do so because they think it is aspirational. The mediocre looks, smaller size than the competition, average power specs and aspirational price of Yaris made it a non-starter.

The only thing it did well was introduction of 7 airbags as a first in the segment where people were not interested. Please remember that we BHPians are still very small in number.

Had Yaris been able to give the experience expected by people in this segment couple with the safety and auto-transmission, I think it would have better chance of crossing a couple of thousands a month.

Although I think that Yaris being only petrol is a non- issue. The Honda city and Maruti Ciaz does well.

Just to also understand, would general people be perceiving it a different body style of Etios?

Yaris needs a price correction more than the dual tone. Price correction equal to the discounts they are offering their employees. The top end AT costs 17.7 lacs on road in Bangalore as per carwale! This is some serious optimism from Toyota!

With a partnership with Suzuki in place, Toyota can push this to Maruti stable. If the same sedan come out with a S badge and from Maruti showroom, this may find some takers.

Maruti can sell ciaz in the NEXA showrooms and Yaris in the regular showroom, Also swapping its Disel engine would be a good choice.

re: The Toyota Yaris dual-tone edition, now launched at Rs. 8.65 lakhs

So I just saw the press release for all new "The Happening" Yaris as Toyota wants to call it. the amount of gibberish and absolute load of bunkum in the press release is funny.

What they have done is basically added a new lower variant called J (option) which has only 3 airbags and some cosmetic features. This is now 65K cheaper than the earlier J.

The other new variant is the V (option). This is in between V and VX. It gets dual tone paint, diamond cut alloy wheels, leather wrapped steering wheel, leatherette seat upholstery, redesigned central armrest .

The rain sensing wipers are mentioned but not sure if it's only for VX. For ORVM they have written "Electrically Adjustable & Foldable ORVM Adjust Only". Cannot make out if that means electrically adjustable but not fold-able since they added adjust only.

The hilarious part is this new V (option) is 27K more than the V.

So prices remain the same just 2 variants introduced, one lower because of removing 4 airbags and other with some features over the V which they are charging you for.

So, 3 airbags is an option now - but the base J variant can still have 7 airbags if needed.

Ready for the 'Toyota' Ciaz? I think we maybe heading there sooner than expected. The Yaris was never a bad car, neither did it excel in at least one single thing. Toyota should understand that the Yaris is not in the UV segment which doesn't have many formidable competitors.

Somebody should write "The Curios case of the Toyota Yaris in India" It'll probably be a half page report in just one paragraph.

Toyota expecting a dead cat bounce with dual-tone Yaris. Haven't seen a single product whose sales chart on fire just because of dual-tone. If product itself is good, people will find reasons to buy it. No need of any gimmick. This may help to push some inventory to dealers as display car.

Newspapers have published adv for dual tone Yaris today. Have the now sort of mandatory Android auto and Apple car play.
Ads claim improved rear seat comfort.

The new variants introduced are J option, G option and V option.

In this, V option gets the same system as before without navigation and gesture as well as no Android Auto and Apple car play.

However Toyota now offers an accessory pack for the J and G which has front, rear spoiler, side mouldings, central console box, mood lighting, leatherette seat covers and an aftermarket audio system (looks like Blaupunkt from pics) which supports Android Auto and Apple carplay.

The J and G option variants dont have audio system at all.

Is the annoying arm rest protrusion into rear space gone? It is not clear from pictures. I think it is still there going by the way they have hid it in the brochure . If still present , it is quite disappointing.

Looks like it is gone completely. As in no arm rest at all. But again sold as an accessory:

#Recommended audio. Not standard fitment.

There seems to be a smaller armrest now. This will no doubt increase the rear seat comfort.

re: The Toyota Yaris dual-tone edition, now launched at Rs. 8.65 lakhs

Reduced number of air bags to give Indian consumers what they want, a price cut. That’s not good.

I find Yaris to be a fine product, which if fails, will vindicate the market sentiment about what sells and what doesn’t which means de prioritising safety in favour of bling.
