Fantastic pricing. I was expecting the top end to breach 15 lakhs ex showroom.

Good job by Honda. What a way to come back.

What we wanted is given to us; bigger car, better quality materials inside out, new engines, automatic transmission option for all variants (Petrol), safety features spread across the range and the most demanded VFM pricing.

All of this coupled with Honda's ease of maintenance, long term reliability, sorted ASCs for services, all time availability of spares and awesome resale value. Just wow !

I have never seen a car launch that focused on the rear seat so much and that too for saree clad women:

I think Creta SX and Seltos HTX variant are going to see some tough competition now.

With Honda offering a lot above the two contenders with its ZX variant.

Well, the CVT and Diesel ZX variants are just 50K shy of 15 lacs ex-showroom. OTR prices do get into the 17+ zone. Good pricing, but not the BEST. One thing for sure is that the competition is heating up, and hence price corrections are bound to happen.

Top end petrol CVT seems well priced, also the base petrol V seems decently loaded. Let's see how buyers respond to this.
For someone who wants a diesel, maybe the Creta SX makes more sense.

re: The 5th-gen Honda City in India. EDIT: Review on page 62

I'm happy that Honda kept the City's prices real. No way Honda could overprice the new car. Reasons:

1. Current car market is DEAD due to Covid-19. All competitors will offer discounts once production catches up with (pent-up) demand.

2. The 4th-gen City was already premium priced.

3. Soon, the 4th-gen City will be discontinued & Honda couldn't have its bread & butter model being perceived as being "overpriced".

4. The market is hot for crossovers & SUVs, not so much sedans.

Fantastic pricing by Honda. I expect the 5th Gen City to yet again, set the segment benchmark. It would be interesting to see if it can replicate the same sales numbers as the previous generation did at launch, considering the Covid scenario

Any update on the expected price cuts on the current City? Still a decent buy unless Honda gets greedy.

re: The 5th-gen Honda City in India. EDIT: Review on page 62

Wow!
Fantastic pricing by Honda, with speculations of a increase from 90k to 2 lacs variant on variant, I would say Honda has done a great job.
Lets see the price increase:
V-MT ₹24000
VX-MT ₹43900
ZX-MT ₹13000

V-CVT ₹18900
VX-CVT ₹43900
ZX-CVT ₹18000

The V variant is fairly loaded. Best part is that the feature increase on variant to variant are not deal-breakers which may push one to upgrade the variant, more of a feel-good upgrade if one 'desires' more features.
Highest increase is in the VX model which is the one which comes with all the feel-good features and the one that was most visible on roads for the 4th gen city. Sad that the price increase on the VX is almost twice to thrice when compared to other variants.
Well, they needed a competitive pricing with the mid-size SUV segment ruling the roost in India.

Now where does Honda put the old City? Will there be price correction or will Honda do a Skoda Rapid?
W.r.to new city, prices are comparable to that of Verna, which is good. Honda has loaded V variant and made it VFM.

Good to see Honda waking up and pricing the 2020 City sensibly. Please share the OTR prices for Delhi. Thank you.

re: The 5th-gen Honda City in India. EDIT: Review on page 62

Decent pricing by Honda India this time (a rarity from Honda these days).

However, I do not understand the rationale behind a 1.5 lac premium for diesel MT over petrol MT considering the fact the the diesel engine in the City is less on power (20 ps down). There will be less takers for diesel City as the customer would probably end up cross shopping.

re: The 5th-gen Honda City in India. EDIT: Review on page 62

This is great pricing for the City. I believe it can generate good volumes for the City as now people will get a “bigger” car at the same price.

The looks also are elegant and all pleasing. Honda has thrown a challenge to the Verna and also to the Creta/Seltos to some extent.
