The road noise on cemented roads is too much on stock tyres. To the point that it is scary sometimes! I recently drove BHPian Swarup’s City on which he has done a substantial amount of damping. He has also changed his tyres. Overall, the noise inside the cabin was so much lesser!

I’m definitely going to get damping done, and also change the tyres shortly. Makes it feel like a much better car.

Not sure if I read it the right way, but I guess the City Hybrid proves to be excellent if the use is primarily in the city. It is probably going to be neither exciting nor economical on highway runs - I guess it will deliver the promised FE levels only if you keep it at a steady 80-90 kph on highways.

The charm with turbodiesels (I own one, 12 years old and still loving it ) is difficult to match - very forgiving when it comes to a heavy foot and excellent driveability on highway speeds (80-120) with a very nice FE. And if you have one with good low-end torque (most diesels have it anyway), you can move around in the city too without much pain.

I would agree with your interpretation. They did post the FE figures in the comments section:

Honda City Diesel: 15.32kmpl/21kmpl
Honda City Hybrid: 20.15kmpl/23.38kmpl
VW Virtus DSG: 12.12.kmpl/19kmpl

Having owned the City Diesel for many years now, that 15 kpl they got in city conditions is actually on the lower side given the fact that it is a manual as well. In Bangalore city traffic also I have never got such a low mileage.

The issue with Petrols especially the automatic ones in city conditions is that the FE drops to single digits very easily. Given that Virtus DSG delivered two digits is surprising to me and I find it hard to believe...

What tyre upgrade are you planning to do?

More then damping, tyre change will make a more evident difference in road noise as well as slightly better handling dynamics. I have had the most pleasent experience with michelins,super silent drive.

What is the tyre specification that you upgraded to?

I’m planning to go for 195/55/r16. Not planning to go for 205/50 since it doesn’t increase the size of the sidewall as compared to stock. I feel the City looks undertired with thin sidewalls and want to fix that along with the road noise and grip issues.

A petrol car being able to deliver the mileage similar to a Diesel car; this by itself is a good achievement.

What exactly does damping involve? If you can share details or point to another thread/link with more info, I'd appreciate it. If it involves removing panels etc, does it impact warranty in any way?

Any reason for going with 205/55/16 instead of 205/50/16? The dia difference seems to become significant with the 205/55/16 size. Is it easier availability?

I'm sure it's a better set of tyres but isn't the ODO error too much with that specification?
