Im so disappointed with the design that this is my second post in 30 mins !
We have replaced our every day 'run about' City with a new City for 20 years now (owned all 4 generations) and this is going to be the first time when we will end up buying a Seltos or something similar to that. This doesnt feel desirable and the mini SUVs are offering incredible Value with very attractive designs.
I would have bought a City without thinking twice if they had made it edgy. Lexus is doing a great job and Honda should have thought of that whilst designing a sedan in these tough times

Width: 1,748 mm. (Old Civic: 1750 mm)
Height: 1,467 mm. (Old Civic: 1450mm)

Length - 8mm more than Old Civic, 113mm more than outgoing City
Width: 2mm less than old Civic, 53mm more than outgoing City

Still, the new 1.0 Turbo is rated at 23.8 kmpl in Thailand. With the 1.0 turbo - Honda claims superior power than 1.5 iVTec and superior torque than the 1.8 iVTec.

The Wheelbase has reduced:

5th Gen: 2589 mm
4th Gen: 2600 mm

Typically, shouldn't this affect the rear leg room negatively?

By the time this City hits the Indian shores, which would be around mid-2020, its rivals like the Hyundai Verna, Ciaz and the Rapid will also see some major updates and might take away a big chunk of its sales before the arrival. The 1.0L 3 cylinder engine is also a disappointing aspect of the car besides losing its sharp looks, the reason for it being the stringent Eco Car Phase 2 rules in Thailand where the fuel economy cannot be lesser than 23.25kmpl as well as strict CO2 emission parameters. In India, it will be launched with a 1.5L diesel as well which is upgraded to meet BS6 norms.

Looks like the City has moved up a segment into D!! It should be called a 'Highway' rather than a City: one of the USP's of the present City is it's small footprint and narrow width; without compromising on space & seating comfort that makes it rather easy to punt around in the city (from where it got it's name). That reduction in wheel base why would anyone do that, it should have gone up with the dimensions as always.

Absolutely!

For the Indian market, the Amaze, is today what the City originally was.
If it were available with the 1.5L NA petrol (detuned) for top spec at approx 10L ex-showroom ?

While the new 2020 City can straddle the space up to the Civic, with 1.5L NA for base models and 1.0 L Turbo VTEC / Hybrid for top spec versions.

Frankly, dont see any USP for the Civic in India - with the new City which is bigger and will likely be more fun to drive.

The Civic needs the 1.5L turbo petrol, which gives it the go to match the show.

My ideal Honda Line Up for India:

2020 Jazz (8-12L)
Amaze (8-12L)
2020 City (10-18L)
2020 HR-V (20-24L)
CR-V (28-32L)
Accord (32L ++)

As many have said it, the design is definitely boring but I am glad that there are 3 pointed seat belts for all passengers, which even the fancy Seltos don't offer. If Honda cars India offers a variant with the naturally aspirated 4 cylinder petrol engine mated to a manual transmission and equipped with safety features such as EBD and 6 airbags, this will definitely be my pick when I come back to India next year. If there are mechanical improvements in terms of safety and comfort, I don't mind if the car looks like molten butter. Eagerly awaiting a proper review of the new City. Wow! I've never been so let down by Honda designs before and right now, I'm proud I own the third gen facelift, which IMO was a way bolder design and generation change. I think Honda is playing safe here and gone are the days when their generation changes would woo people with sharp lines and in-the-face designs which looked nothing like anything in the market. But still a bit optimistic it would look better in person than on the pictures. Fingers crossed. Atleast I'm glad my 2012's beauty isn't fading anytime soon

This new design is a disappointment! The front almost looks like Amaze and it looks like a compact sedan with slanting roofline like Amaze. I guess it's better to pick up current generation City (especially petrol) with some good discounts rather than paying premium for a new City with no discounts.

I guess this would lead to more people picking up the current city. Even better with current discounts. This new design language is a departure from earlier elegant Honda design language. The new Jazz and now this City, both look 'meh' in comparison to their outgoing counterparts. This one from front looks more like an Amaze

Indeed, the design does nothing for me. The current gen edgy design with sharp lines and clean cuts is so much better. This is really insipid designing. While I cant call it offensive in any way, it certainly is pretty boring.

As for the engine, what you say is precisely what I did - picked up the sweet 1.5 iVTEC a few months back, and couldnt be happier . One last hurrah before the turbocharged brigade inevitably takes over the reins from the last of the naturally aspirated hearts.

To my eyes, the 3rd and 4th Gen City were best looking in their times. Call it sheer coincidence but the Ciaz's rear end was a copy of City's. To prevent that from happening again, it seems Honda made this as bland as possible.
