The recent launches from Hyundai and Tata also marked the introduction of BS-VI engines into Creta and Harrier. Honda City, which is currently on sale, has been already upgraded to BS-VI in November 2019.

With the April 1 deadline, Hyundai and Tata had no option of delaying the launches unlike Honda.

However, I would still take it with a pinch of salt.
I received the very same news from an ex-colleague, who works in Honda cars. Please refer to post #270. The dealers in Kolkata are communicating the same as well.

A bad move IMO. The City will surely face the heat from the upcoming Verna, which will be offered with three engine options and would definitely be priced cheaper. If availability does not pose any challenge, the Vento and Rapid with the 1.0 TSI mill might put a tiny dent in City sales as well.

Regards!

Selling different generation of the same sub-brand is a bad move. Tata tried it multiple times with Sumo and Safari. The result was lost sales for the older model and a sales dud newer model. Honda City already is facing the heat from Ciaz and Verna. This will further dilute the brand. I hope they don't go forward with this and completely focus on the new generation model.

Is it just me or is the rear end design completely nicked off the G20 3'er? Come to think of it, the whole design looks a bit like a copied assignment, but the rear end is jarring!

Totally agreed!! Ford messed up the global Fiesta by pricing it optimistically to maintain a price gap between the older generation, marking it as the Fiesta Classic. Exactly what you wrote happened.

Wonder if the new City will be City RS minus the turbocharged engine. Old City continues in bs6 avatar and new City sits up top with the RS badge.

Sounds like the perfect candidate to be the last nail in the coffin for Honda India. Only City and Amaze sell. The Mobilios, the WRVs and the CRVs don't sell. Civic was a half hearted attempt, but the company survived. City being the signature brand from the company, if compromised, may prove to be fatal for the company's future in the country.

Honda was expected to launch the next-gen City in April 2020, however, the launch will now likely be pushed to a later date because of the novel Coronavirus

Why not e-launch it and keep the target audience in this competitive market interested? They can follow it up with targeted web articles, ghostwritten pieces etc. Too many details/pictures etc have been circulated to simply postpone the launch. It's going to be a cutthroat battle between the New City, New Verna (ugh), Rapid & Vento 1.0 TSI (maybe a great engine) & the Ciaz (exceptional VFM).

I like the way Skoda quickly did a virtual launch of their crucial Octavia IV as soon as the Geneva Motor Show was cancelled.

5 star indeed! Here is the video -

  • Made in Thailand, for Thailand.
  • Tested with 4 standard airbags - front and side. Hopefully, we get the same as well.
  • ESC is standard. Emergency Stop Signal technology is present.
  • The passenger compartment was stable.

Honda opts against touchscreen AC controls for future cars

Quote:
The reason is quite simple –we wanted to minimise driver disruption for operation, in particular, for the heater and air conditioning
Customer feedback against the touch system prompted the move; India-bound fifth-gen Honda City could revert to physical buttons.

Quote:
Honda is looking to buck the trend, returning to analogue controls for certain functions, and will most likely follow suit on the India-spec fifth-gen City as well. The carmaker has decided to reintroduce heating and air conditioning controls via a dial rather than touchscreen, as on the outgoing Jazz and City models. Even Honda’s e electric vehicle, whose interior features five screens, remarkably offers rotary controls for the climate control system.

Oh thank heavens! Some good customer feedback being respected. Quite a coincidence since the over-dependence on touch inputs is being discussed right now on TBHP here -

LINK - TBHP Thread - ditching the touch screens. (Are carmakers starting to ditch touchscreens now?)
