This 1L turbo would work wonders for Jazz, WRV and Amaze. It's high time Honda introduced RS variants in these segments like Hyundai(Aura,Venue) and Maruti(Baleno RS) did.One a side note, if Honda were to add a turbo to existing 1.2L engine, would it cost too much for them in R&D and implementation?

I hope this make sense.
Probably everyone on this forum knows this. I was eyeing the business and ethical aspect of automakers. These are puny and obsolete engines. 3 cylinder engines were almost on the brink of extinction with Tata being the only player using it. Suddenly now everyone is interested in it. This looks like milking of Indian consumers, the very thing Toyota has been doing since it enetered Indian vehicle market. Just like putting GT tag on cars that are not.

Ecoboost 1L turbo
VW 1L turbo
Honda 1L turbo
Renault 1L turbo
Suzuki 1L turbo
Tata 1.2L turbo

Only one of those is exclusive to the Indian market.

Cylinder downsizing is a trend across the world. The latest M3 and RS4 both have less cylinders than their previous generation and are still faster. The current Ford GT no longer has an iconic V8 and is still one of the fastest American cars made.

I don't think it's wise to buy cars based on just displacement and cylinder count anymore.

Finally seems like a step in the right direction by Honda. I'll be happier if they can launch a Jazz and Amaze RS version and localize engine production in India.

To meet emission norms. Smaller engines emit lesser pollutants under no load/test conditions with minimal loading. The Turbocharger is a compressor- under normal driving conditions, the engine consumes nearly the same amount of fuel as a naturally aspirated 1.5/1.6 litre engine.

We're seeing a trend of turbo V6s replacing large V8s worldwide. Sharing the news about Toyota: https://www.motor1.com/news/414444/t...es-v8-engines/

Actually, the opposite. The key components of the engine (cylinder block, piston, crankshaft etc) have to be more robust, hence are expensive. Add to that the cost of Turbo chargers + components(wastegate, oil cooling etc), high pressure injectors, intercoolers etc. These engines are much more expensive.

Actually, most automakers are downsizing around the world. These three cylinders are either all-new or extensively reworked versions of old motors.

The Amaze is no Skoda. The chassis just cannot handle that power. There is a reason why the top speed of the Amaze is limited to 140 kmph. The 1.2 NA petrol engine on the Amaze sucks. The diesel though is another story altogether.

V is quite loaded and VX is dead on arrival unless priced marginally higher. With features offered, appears V variant will be priced slightly higher than 4th gen ZX variant, may be at a 30-50K premium.

Honestly, if the V is to be priced higher than the Gen4 ZX, Iíll say this car is dead on arrival. Simply too expensive.

If Skoda cannot sell a downsized engine in a 10 year old chassis at the same price as a year ago then it is futile to expect a new car with a new engine to match last gen pricing.

ZX is really loaded with some cool and practical features. Boasts a segment higher. Feel the difference between V and VX should be in multiples of K’s and should never reach a lakh. But, Honda may say that the V model is the older Gen and VX is the new gen.

Scrap current gen City and launch this one at current price point and we have a winner in the market again.

I dont see much of a purpose for the RS 1.0 petrol engine, which isn't providing much of a performance upgrade over the 1.5 NA (121 bhp, 145NM) . If Honda wants to do something worthwhile, they should put this power plant in the WRV. That would be quite the segment-killer.

This is great. Good to see that Honda did not keep key safety features as a top-end option – ESP (VSA), HSA, Side airbags, parking assistance features, all available in the V variant itself!

VX has 6 airbags in comparison to 4 airbags in V that itself would make the difference of quite a few thousands apart from the other features like auto-dimming IRVM, Leather pack, 16 inch alloy wheels, 7 inch MID, sunroof etc. so I think the difference between the two variants would be around 75-100 K.

Skoda's 'downsized' engine is turbocharged + direct injection petrol. Not just DOHC, is getting rave reviews and is significantly faster than the motor it replaces. And priced from a low 7.49 lakhs.

New City is also on a modified 6-year old platform anyways - and with the 1.0 VTec Turbo - was launched marginally cheaper than 4th generation in Thailand. This could have easily replaced the 4th generation here also - just that Honda is banking on the City's reputation to get them through this dual generation premium strategy.
