I honestly don't find much of a difference between the chassis of the 3rd, 4th and 5th gen City. Park the three of them besides each other and look from top down. Then look from pillar to pillar and then the wheelbase. They might have worked on the steel composition bit but that's more or less about it.

While Skoda and VW have been serving us old wine in an old bottle (they recently upgraded to a better tasting wine though), Honda has been cleverly draping their old lady in fresh clothes & makeup and calling it love all over again.

These are the numbers of June 2020 - Creta 7200+ Seltos 7100+ Venue 4100+ & Brezza 4500+ units. (What pandemic?!!) Yes a sedan will always be better to drive but the mass market has moved on & a crossover/compact suv has quite a few advantages like:
1. Higher GC which is a boon for our roads.
2. Better visibility & commanding seating position.
3. Easy Ingress and Egress.
4. "Perceived" to be safer than a sedan in a crash.
5. "Perceived" to be a "badi gaadi" or larger vehicle - higher status symbol.

Why haven't they bought the 1.0L turbo? It would have kept the enthusiasts happy & it could have justified the higher price at the same time acting as a good differentiator.

Also unless they lower the price of the older gen city (doubtful) why are they still selling it? The lower models of the new Verna make more sense now than the old gen city.

What is Honda's play here? Serve up a modified chassis of the previous gen and price it higher! At this price point it's very very hard to ignore the Koreans. Only aggressive pricing can save the new City (as well as the old City!).

Heck this goes neck to neck against the Creta and Seltos, which are way more desirable in our Junta's eyes.
While that premium image was once there (when the brand was relatively new in the Indian market), I do not think that is any more the case. Honda still carries better "premium" cache than say, Maruti or Tata or Mahindra (though I personally think they are all on the same/similar levels today), but they no longer are perceived as very premium.

Part of it has to do with the fact that the brand has taken it too easy and not introduced relevant products with the changing landscape in this country, and therefore, lost lot of visibility in the eyes of the consumer. All that said and notwithstanding, there is still a fair bit of cache that is carried by the City, in the mid size sedan segment. The new version seems to be a solid offering as well.

I am very much impressed with the understated design of the new City. It's like VW or Skoda cars, non flashy and classy.

Where as its chief competitor Verna tries very hard to squeeze all the modern tech in old and dated dashboard.

Scoop! 5th-gen Honda City spotted testing in India EDIT: Launched at Rs. 10.9 lakhs!-doorpad.png

Is this normal for a well built car? Such a reason was why I shied away from the last gen City coming from the last gen Civic. The door pads seem poorly put together and seems easy to pull out. I maybe nitpicking here.

We may not even be getting the RS, but here's another 0-100 time for it. This is a more realistic time, but it should be noted that the car is in "Drive" rather than "Sport" mode as in the previous video.

Either way, an easily moddable turbo Honda would be a big comeback for them with the enthusiast and tuner community.

Thanks for pointing out. There's a minimum quality level that one expects from a car that breaches the 15 lakh rupee mark. If that's not a one-off problem with the media car, I'd strike off the 5th gen Honda City from my wishlist right away, cabin space be damned

It won't be a one off thing, looks like Honda took the term door-cards quite literally and made them like cardboards. There are also reports of Amaze's roof headliner being so soft that it moves with a finger push, no amount of features can make up for this flimsy build quality, that too at the mega premium that Honda charges.

The current Honda City CVT top end is about 18 odd, this one will be 19-20 odd for sure. Just 4-5 years back one could've landed a Jetta or Elantra at that price, and those 2 have interiors made out of granite. What imaginary land Honda is living in, I do not know.

Has Honda shared the time for the launch on 15th July 2020? I expect an introductory price in the 11.99L-18.99L (ex-showroom) range.

Would fail without any help if this is the price. It has to be atleast a lac lesser for the base variant and atleast 3.5-4 lacs lesser for the top variant.

In other words, the ex-showroom prices mentioned in this post should be close to the actual on-road prices.
